Cultist Simulator Tie-ins?
I don't have this game yet, but I do have and enjoy Cultist simulator. Aside of similar lore, are there "tie-ins" with the Cultist Simulator game? For example is the library on of the locations we raid in the other game? Or that strange (to put it mindly) woman in the club, one of the bizarre Long that is crucial in the Dancer, the one you can talk to her about everything to delay the cards... is she there? Or the other one that may kill you? Etc?

EDIT: My first question has been answered. Now a 2nd question that is harder to answer and obviously closer to ones tastes:
I am interested in playing to have more and fresh interactions in that nice world. But talking about these things makes me to simply want to... replay Cultist Simulator.
Will playing Book of Hours scratch the CS itch? Is it similar in atmosphere, mystery even if it is different in playstyle?

There are many characters from cultist simulator that may visit the library. I haven't seen all of them, but they include detectives, rivals, famous persons, ligaeins, names.

Names? As in... people that have been named, or Names, the under-the-Hours ultra-powerful beings like King Crucible? Why would a Name visit a library? Or it is part of the game to find out?
Waladil Sep 17, 2024 @ 4:16pm
Well it's not just *a library.* It's one of the foremost occult libraries in the world... even Names need to check a book now and then.

(King Crucible does not come by, but I think some of the more-human Names do)

Not all names are beings from the Mansus, some are long who advanced into the position. You meet at least one in Cultist that I can think of off the top of my head.

Some of your visitors also bring news about the more famous characters from Cultist Simulator.

So, while you don't meet those characters directly, you still learn about what happened to them after Cultist Simulator.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Teresa? Everyone remembers Teresa!
I think you meet at least two Names that ascended from Long.

Yeah, I bought the game, couldn't resist.

Can you become Long in this game? Or go through the Mansus?

I didn't just "enjoy" Cultist Simulator, it "restore my faith" in games - i.e. that there are games that feel 'new', unlike what I have been used to and, the real surprise here, that thus there may be new "genres" of games to discover that I may enjoy. I.e that there are still games and types of games out there that capture my interest and imagination like games did when I was 14 years old!

It is not perfect, of course, but for me it was completely fresh and with deep, deep, lore.
It is a game that for my tastes, had the right amounts of mystery and mystique, difficulty, darkness + tons of lore presented in a way that works well for me.

Cultist simulator doesn't actually have as much replay value as it might first appear. Once you can get to a certain mastery in CS you can overcome the adversarial part of the game and then it's mainly discovery, without that much new to discover each time. If you've got to that point in CS you should move onto Book of Hours which is full of new discoveries (with very little adversarial). If you're still finding different styles of play in CS then sure, give that another go, especially if you like having the game as an adversary.

I'll also mention that I tried two of the CS expansions and I found them pitched at a difficulty level below the top difficulty of the base game. They again had new discoveries but maybe not that much to discover compared to the repetition of existing content. They are not expensive though and might suit you if you just want another look at CS.

No and no. The Wood is no place for a Librarian, and the covenant of the Watchman's Tree makes you stand outside the established order of things. You wield an entirely different, and in many ways more terrifying, sort of power.

Intriguing...
Do you at least get a nice bust like the others I find in all those rooms? A painting without yourself in it?
ForestMagi Sep 22, 2024 @ 9:37am
Sadly, no, no bust of yourself and no way to make one, or any other artwork. It's up to you to decide what in the game best represents your Librarian; I usually use the Journal, but it can be any item that goes on a shelf, so put whatever feels right there.
Fedup Sep 22, 2024 @ 8:55pm
There is ... where? I am early game.
Are the developers active in this forum? I would pay for a DLC that allows us to carve our bust from something and put it up, or a painting.
ForestMagi Sep 22, 2024 @ 9:22pm
There's a series of rooms in the house relatively early on with dedicated spots for the various busts, plus one slot for you and one for your successor. You can put whatever you want in these spots, but you do get a reward for putting all the busts in the right spot.

AK is semi-active, I think checking in around once a week, maybe once every couple of weeks? Doesn't always post even when he pops on, though. I don't think the DLC includes any artwork recipes, as it seems to be more focused on food, salons, and the Further Stories to resolve the incidents that happen over the course of the game.

There is a second DLC planned for some time in the future that might include player-created art, but more likely something will come from modding if AK makes it easier to mod in art assets (which is nebulous, and I don't know if AK plans on setting up BoH to be modded via workshop like CS is).
Fedup Sep 22, 2024 @ 9:47pm
Well, a selection of 5-6 portraits that are sketchy enough to pass for how we imagine our character would do.
