And the shortcuts work like chutes and ladders, kinda, when you slot a skill at the origin of one of the lines which connect to other branches, you can ignore eveything on the other branch below where it connects, and start slotting from there. Illumination and Nyctrodromy can be completed with only 3 skills each, since they have shortcuts up to level 7.
I did Bosk the other day and just barely as I ended up with the top three skills all with Grail as a principal and Numa came just after I placed the last skill. I would have lost the lesson I'd need and I don't think I'd get another one.
