What's even worse for those who want to do an all book run is you've most likely locked yourself out of 5 books without even knowing about it due to how the deck system works in conjunction with Oriflamme's. So even if you buy out Oriflamme's to where they offer the repeat book, you'll still be missing 5 books.
I've never heard of this, can you explain or link to info?
So the game works on a deck system. Each item is classified into a deck and when something is drawn it is removed from the deck. Once that deck is exhausted it will refresh. The easiest example is Numa. The deck is 9 cards with one being Numa and the others being Not-Numa. So that's how you get variance in the time Numa comes.
I bring this up because the books are also in decks. There is a deck for each time period: Dawn, Solar, Baronial, Curial, and Nocturnal. The Oriflamme deck contains all the books in those time periods where pulling from one of the 5 will also remove that book from Oriflamme and vice-versa.
So what happens when you exhaust that deck? When you exhaust any of those decks, it doesn't refresh and instead you get a default book. These are the 21 difficulty books. There is one for each time period and one for Oriflamme. Something to keep in mind is there aren't enough default books in the library to cover all the books in the game. So you can probably see where this is going.
Someone catalogues all the books in the library but there are still books in each of the 5 decks. Oriflamme's will eventually pull all of those books out and then revert to it's default card. Since it's pulling from it's deck and not the other decks you only get it's default book and miss the default book for those 5 time periods.
So to actually get all the books you have to do something completely counter-intuitive. You have to save at least one book from each time period and not catalogue them until you empty Oriflamme's. You then catalogue them, they will attempt to pull from the deck, see it's empty, and give you the default book for that time period.
It's kinda like gold spintriae in Cultist Simulator, actually.
That is extremely counter-intuitive. I had figured that each "deck" was set in stone from the start, and that exhausting Oriflamme's would result in a trash book akin to "something something DEEP MYSTERIES" from Cultist Simulator, just junk to tell you there's nothing more to gain. I've never gone that far as to get everything from Oriflamme's, my intent was to do an all-books run at some point so at least now I know the trick ahead of time.
I figure one could probably edit the save pretty easily to just give oneself some uncatalogued books. I prefer not to do it that way if possible, but that might be an option for someone who doesn't want to wait and see.
