Once you find advanced candles in the game (there are a few in the house, they are usually easily spotted due to not being white), their names should make it fairly obvious which components were used to craft them. You then need to find a workstation where you can slot these components together with a candlemaking skill.
For example, if you make a candle with moth orchid, the box will change text to "Make a moth-orchid scented candle"
There's no need to experiment here. Even Numina will tell you before you begin crafting that you have a unique recipe.
