how to get languages

how do i get languages? i need hyksos to use a film reel.

Give your visitors a spintra. You won't be able to give them a book though.

it's a trade, you give them a book, they give you money. you give them money, they give you a language they know - but not for the same visit/visitor, they always leave once either action is taken... I'm over 50h in my first game and haven't seen any of my previous visitor return yet - those who had languages I needed, I grabbed, the others I gave books

Not to be nitpicky but to be perfectly clear, money and spintra are different things. Just to avoid confusion.

Sprintriae has always been considered money. A different kind, mystic/magic, but still money.

Dude, I know, clearly I'm just trying to make sure OP doesn't get confused between two actual ingame currencies.

fair enough, I keep forgetting about the word "currency" and apologize for that - it would really be easier to understand calling "money" and "sprintiae" as ingame currencies =)

I really wished we'd get a more random set of starting languages. initially I didn't know that your character already knows stuff like Latin, Sandskrit, etc. Cuz languages has those cards and a spot for them with your skills. Yes I know that the language icon itself on a book or a visitor will say that 'librarian knows this language' or some such.

agreed, starting languages should show up as skill cards from the start instead of being just "background knowledge"

Right, so now there's six or seven extra skill cards in the game, which completely messes up the balance. Or they're not skills and get a forum full of people asking why their skill cards don't work. Help which languages are skills and which aren't, this is dumb and so forth.

Or maybe just do as the game tells you to and read what's on the screen right in front of you and then use what you learn there to know things in your head.
