1. Unlock rooms to find beds. You need a bed that: a) you can use one of your UNCURSED Elements of the Soul to occupy (e.g. you have an uncursed EotS with the right Principle); and b) the little Principle icons at the top right of the interaction window with that bed include one Principle matching your cursed EotS AND one Principle matching whichever one your curse says you will need.
2. Slot appropriate EotS into the bed's Occupant slot to assign that as your bed.
3. Once done, your possible interactions with that bed will expand. Slot your cursed EotS, whatever your curse says you might need to uncurse it (something to drink = Beverage for example) and enough power of the relevant Principle required.

If you don't understand all the above, try occupying every bed type you have access to until you find one that allows you to do step 3. (Remember each bed type needs specific, unexhausted EotS to occupy so try when all your EotS is fresh.) You should have time, I've played a few ingame seasons with a cursed EotS and nothing bad ever happened with them.

By Principle, I mean the aspects that appear on your EotS and Skills with a power level attached, e.g. Lantern, Moth, Grail, Scale, Nectar, etc.

Maladies of your soul are cured in a bed as Rai pointed out. Make sure you look at the soul card that has the malady to get the correct information on what aspect is needed. It'll be a strength 5.

Cleansing a book of a debuff is done at a desk. It is a strength 7. You have to provide all of the aspect before beginning.

Your post is confusing because desks don't take 2 phost unless you're trying to read the book.

What debuff was on the book and what skill did you try to use?
Oh, I realized now you might have been talking about a curse on a book. You'll need to cleanse them at a desk as Pandorian says, using a Skill that has an aspect that says something like e.g. "Effective against corruption" that roughly matches the description of the curse. You can check if it's the right one by slotting the book, Skill and provided the required Power, and checking the recipe description to see if it has changed from basically "you're going to read this book" to "you're going to remove a curse from this book".

Edit: In case you don't have the required stuff to deal with book-curses, just chuck them into a room without any other objects you'd miss. Like a garden for example. As far as I know curses won't spread outside the room they are in.

You have to do it at a desk? That's quite annoying as I have the skill and enough aspect to purify a book but I do not have a desk that accepts moth :(
