Anyone figure out how to upgrade soul cards yet?
I've been making good progress, but all my next rooms and books require 5+ aspect to unlock, and I'm getting bored of waiting for powerful weather.

I think the intention is that you unlock a good amount of rooms with consumables and visitors first, which will lead to you having a much better set of skill cards and workstations.

To write it out in painful detail, there are 3 requirements which all must be met:

The reasonably obvious requirements:
1. The upgrading workstations only support a single type of wisdom, so you'll need a skill which has been committed to that wisdom
2. When you commit a skill to a wisdom, you get a soul card as a reward and the skill becomes 'Attuned' to that type of soul card. So you can only use a skill

And then the fiddly requirement:
3. Each station only supports certain aspects. So both your committed skill card and the soul card that it's attuned to need to have at least one of those aspects.

As an example:
The Telescope supports Rose and Sky aspects and can be used to 'Evolve via Horomachistry'. The Soul cards with those aspects are Fet and Phost. To upgrade using this station you'd need to

1. Find a skill that can be committed to Horomachistry
2. Ensure that skill has either Rose or Sky
3. Ensure that when you commit the card, the reward you get is either a Fet or a Phost card.

(and then find a second Fet / Phost)

(edit: p.s. I had a lot of skills and a lot of rooms open before I upgraded my first soul card. I'm not suggesting getting hung up on the Telescope's requirements, if it's not aligned with your cards there are other workshops to find)

It's in the description. You just had to find 2 more of the same aspects for that skill

Certain crafting stations have an extra Aspect for upgrading the cards. Between that and the text on your Skills after you commit them, it should become fairly obvious.

You also do not need Weather for your Assistants. Tools, soul cards, memories, drinks, food, etc, can all be given to them to boost their stats. Some Assistants can accept some cards for a boost that others cannot. Pay attention to what the slot accepts.

Thanks, I'll look into that.

I hear you, but this really isn't helpful and I still feel totally stuck.

The couple of skills I do have only give a max of 2 in any category, and none of them match the books.

All the food and drink is already gone because I considered it very early on. For some incredibly odd reason sitting and thinking about a bag of tea for 30 seconds consumes it into a memory that was gone before I had a chance to use it. I never got a chance to try actually brewing it.

There are only 2 tools that any of the helpers can use, and neither of them matches the books I have.

None of the skills I have help with the low level books I have, and the higher level books need 8 or 14 which I am no where near reaching. I still have a couple of books that only need 4, but I'm well over 30 days waiting for a weather even that would let me solve them.

That leaves me with trying to farm for memories, but all I seem to find is the sight and feel memories, neither of which does anything for me.

Are you stuck and unable to open any rooms, or are you able to open rooms but you're sitting there trying to read books? Your top priority should be unlocking rooms, which should be more than possible with the Unusual Visitors from the tavern.

I've opened all the rooms I have been able to. The next rooms take 5+ in at least one category which I can only hit if I get super lucky on a weather roll.

How do you get unusual visitors? I don't think I have seen any of them yet.

Okay, that's your issue. You need to go to the tavern and put in a soul fragment AND a coin. From there, you'll find an unusual visitor, who has 4 in three of the Aspects (super easy to get 5 by talking to them with any matching weather/soul fragment). They cost a Florin (24 p) to hire, which you can get from your yearly stipend or from working 4x at the tavern with Health/Chor/Mettle/Whist/Phost (which each give you 1 shilling/6 p per run -- fortune-telling makes less, don't do that).

Son, you haven't even gotten to the hard part. I got to rooms that required TEN. And they are still doable. Here's the thing: For assistance, you can boost them with everything they let you and they STACK. Example of how I got TEN lantern for the reverend: He has a starter of 2 + Use phost which gives 2 (4 so far) + either good weather Or look for the revelation memory (re-read books. YES, you get memories when you re-read them. Take notes where you find each unique one. 6 so far) + give him a nice drink of tea for 1 (Seven so far) + give him a candle for 1 (That's eight) + give him a daedalian lens for 2... and you get ten. Oh, and do note "until the end of the day" does not mean if you get him back after he leaves he still has buffed stats... until he departs.

On your original question regarding the Evolve aspects tied to skills that you commited... I do not have a precise answer as I did not get far enough in the house to find the workstations that apparently do so. No, ignore the guys that say "use the skill with two of that soul on a workstation that lets you". I tried putting two phost on the telescope with a phost-tied skill and it just told me to make a lens as usual. There must be other workstations to specifically allow you to evolve... but you're not gonna see them until you break past the rooms that ask for ten of the aspect. BUT, good news is that you can still stack a lot of things on your assistance to get them where you wanted.

And I did not know about the unusual visitors, but that sure sounds like it also helps.

Yes, you need workbenches that specifically allow it, but you will find one of these in one of the very first rooms you open the Telescope right above the entrance. The trick is the skill has to be Committed to the same Wisdom as the workbench evolves, and then you can only upgrade whatever Part of the Soul is tied to that skill. And only once per skill.

I still don't get it. The telescope only accepts rose and sky abilities. I mistakenly slotted an ability into horomachistry that does not have either rose and sky aspects (the ability is called door & wall, which has knock and forge aspects). Am I now blocked from combining the skill forever? Do I have to restart the game?

Alternatively, can someone explain exactly what I'm supposed to drag where to combine abilities?

You will find stations in other rooms that upgrade Horomachistry-assigned soul bits but take different aspects. Just keep plugging-- upgrading soul bits is helpful but not super necessary.

The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

And now I notice it. Yes, the previous post outlines it completely. I think in this case it was because the skill I used was tied to a different wisdom. I remember plenty of workstations in other places... so need to check for this thing.
I just realized how to do this after nearly asking as well... and I spec'd my skills wrong so I might have just made it all a lot harder for myself cuz I dun have a Horoscope skill that is also able to be used with the Telescope...
I think I might wanna go and restart now that I've learnt that lesson.... :I

There are plenty of other Horomachistry workbenches further in. I believe where you choose to slot your skills has an effect on the ending you get (from what the dev has said in the past?) so picking based on which workbenches you encounter first may or may not be optimal.
