Game length and replayability?
This maybe a little silly asking this now considering the game has been out less than a day but I'm curious. A great thing about Cultist Simulator is you can pretty much replay it forever. I would like to know what the replay value of Book of Hours is like. Any info is appreciated.

Well, there are apparently 100 possible endings...

I would imagine that the first time beating the game, 20-30 hours would be about the same experience for any other type of run. As replayable as you like.

I was so confused by the estimated playtime on the steam page. Is that for folks who see a playthrough on a stream first and then play it themselves but disliking it? (Not trying to make too much fun of it. Hour's know I've read my share of walkthroughts when they were still on paper. legend of kyrandia hand of fate I'm looking at you. )

The Steam store page says it's a "20 - 40 hour game" with "nine different Legacies", "Each playthrough offers a different opportunity".

Does that mean that we're likely to play through all 9 legacies in 40 hours, each one taking somewhere between 2 and 5 hours each?

No way. I've spent all of yesterday and today playing (~12 hr playtime), and I don't see an ending in sight: I estimate I've unlocked 1/3rd of the house's rooms. 40 hours has to be for a single playthrough.

I'm at 19 hours and have technically hit the ability to trigger one of the endings. Another I could probably reach due to the amount of lessons I've gone through but choose to explore the house fully first.

So just as in their previous game there are minor victory conditions.
Chiming in.

I don't see how you did your "first playthrough in less than 20 hours".
Unless using every possible wiki, there is a lot to do in this game, a lot of rooms to explore, books to read, tremendous lore and even skipping the lore, plenty of combinations to play.

20-40 hours is a low end spectrum for Book of Hours.
80 hours should be something on average for ending a first playthrough.
Next ones however should probably be under 30 hours.

Site howlongtobeat mentions an average of 32 hours just of rmain story, 63 hours for main story + extras, 133 hours for completionists.
... I would like to add though that it seems to me the mansion remains the same on each playthrough, so you should consider that your first game of 30 - 130 hours is really the main thing.

I'll see when I get an ending if this is enough to warrant a second playthrough, but as of now I think the main game is it.

Great game by the way: I definitely recommend getting it!

While the length of a single playthrough was already covered by previous posters, I wouldn't say the game is very replayable. The challenges before you don't change much between playtroughs, and you can get most of the information in the first playthrough. I think you can reasonably expect to see around two thirds of all books in a given run if you don't try to finish it before exploring the entire House. I decided to go and get all the endings, but IMO my second run was already a bit boring.
That said, IMO Cultist Simulator without DLCs is also not very replayable - more replayable than Book of Hours, but after you get all 6 endings there is nothing more to do.

At least second time around you know and expect most of the game's BS. And the books shuffle a bit differently.

Honestly, I enjoy it that much more the second time, with general understanding, already existing spreadsheets and the QoL additions. Feels like I'm playing the game again and not the notepad. it's a nice rest from my ongoing breakdowns.

Started a new run recently and even knowing what to do I ended up taking about 25 hours to push in deep and get some rooms I didn't on the first playthrough. I did end up not using the 4 sacraments or free mommets thinking I'd need them for some later rooms, if I had been less stingy I might've gotten through a little faster. Staying in the game to stack skills higher or maxing out wisdom tree paths is going to add some unnecessary time as well.
