I need help.
I feel really dumb. I don't know what I'm doing wrong or how to progress or what goes where or if there's something different I need to click on. I'm still stuck in the little village. I don't have access to the bridge or Hush House yet, and I don't know how to unlock those. I don't have a ton of tiles to use, and the ones I have aren't working. Would it be better for me to just start over and delete this current save?

no unless you have a malady

Check around the houses in the village. One is an inn, the other is a post office. The other 3 can help you.

To unlock the bridge, you need to get the help of the blacksmith I think. To get the help of the people you'll generally need to get your introductions with the townspeople by using the help of someone else in the town (you'll need to pay them a shilling except the Rector, can get money by using stats on the tavern)

If you can't get blacksmith to help, then you can talk about Forge-aspected things with other people to make them able to do Forge tasks. How do you get things to talk about? At the beginning, either talk about the weather, or talk with people without any topic to generate memories, which can be talked about. Does that help at all?

The person that helps you for free is determined by the past you choose at the beginning.
Yeah, with my history giving me the metal book and the blacksmith as a starting place the blacksmith will help for free but he can't give any introductions to the other houses as far as I can see. I guess you could hire someone at the tavern. The problem is it costs like 24 to just make the introduction and they are gone. so if you want to talk you have to have the right affinities and I am stuck in the first two rooms without being able to use neighbors to clear anymore or the beach. The blacksmith can't open the long hallway or the 3rd floor room above the first room. I even read some books and got some skills and such but no cards to converse with the rest of town, so I guess I am a bit stuck at the moment too lol.
Well I forgot you could earn money at the tavern and got a hire to open the door to one place and somehow gained the right element of soul somewhere to talk to them so on the right track.

Anything that is in the Memory or Soul category can be used to talk to a person with. This will add the aspects of those cards to the person. This can be done only once per those categories per assistance. So you get Denzil, and you talk to him about the weather. Now the weather aspects (such as 2 Lantern for Sunny) are added to his aspects. He now has the Lantern aspect and can introduce you to the Rector (Reverend Timothy).

There are other items also you can give to the people, you just have to read what all they accept by clicking on the subject box when trying to talk to them.

EDIT: The 2 sky from Sunny would also get added but I dropped it for brevity's sake.

Yeah I am good now but the original and biggest problem I had with my background with the metal book and staying at the smith is the other houses wouldn't let me speak at all unless I had been introduced and the blacksmith can't introduce you to either the coffin maker or the church. Once I payed for the right person at the bar to open up an introduction I can now talk and since I was at a bit of a standstill I earned the money back plying my trade at the tavern. Definitely not a game that holds your hand all the time but that's what I like about it. I get to experiment and learn from my mistakes, work my mind a bit instead of brain dead quest markers and in-game tutorials everywhere (even though I still play games with some of that too, most recently Baulder's Gate 3 which I am enjoying but this game gave me a bit of a breather.)
