Much more effectively than what I would get out of a poor English dub (or any equally bad representation). These days it isn't as big a deal as most Japanese developers have begun to offer multiple language tracks, but I went from a huge Final Fantasy to not having played one at any length since ten. Of which it's very unpleasant voice overs really turned me off to the game, especially growing to love the characters from the previous titles through good writing and player interpretation.
Give this a try though, I have been out on JRPG/Turn based for years. I randomly felt nostalgic and landed on this, I haven't been disappointed so far.
Azura is voiced by Caitlin Glass whenever I read her lines, using her Winry voice. B/c whenever I see a blonde female character with a spunky personality, I immediately think of Winry.
Galil doesn't have a decisive voice, though when I let my guard down I will hear Johnny Yong Bosch's voice creep in since Johnny has the go-to hero voice. But I guess my brain is being picky since there's alot of heroic sounding male lead actors.
Renzo is voiced by Jason Marsden. Just b/c is the least interesting character to me, so he gets an obscure but good voice actor (voiced Noel in FFXIII). (For the Star Wars memes, Rosh Penin from Jedi Academy as well).
Barbarosa is voiced by Liam O Brien. Babarosa's loyalty struck me as being "knightly", and whenever I think of such characters I think of Liam's portrayal of Sterk from the Atelier Arland trilogy. But because Barbarosa is a power type character, there's a hint of Liam's Asura whenever I read lines where Barbarosa raises his voice or gets angry. Also bc I'm an Asura's Wrath fanboy. So I like my excuses to use Asura's voice even a tiny bit.
Vivian is Leah Clark using her cute sophisticated intellectual girl voice.
Ignis is Travis Willingham using a subservant tone to match his role as a butler.
Gene is Joe Zieja. He's a new voice actor who did a great job as Kurt in Trails of Cold Steel, and Star Fox, so I wanted to use his voice somewhere since it's so fresh inside my head.
Rachel is Brittney Karbowski. Her voice sounds almost the same for every role she plays. Just seemed to gel with Rachel's appearance.
Tiggy is Cassandra Lee Morris, bc Cassandra actually sounds like a kid when she voices these types of characters (cough lolis cough).
