I can tell you one thing for sure - the gunplay mechanic has somehow changed, before it felt somehow fun, now it feels just stupid and boring, I can't really put my finger on it, but it feels like they did something to accommodate all the P2W guns they put into the game and also changed how most Euro guns work so they can somehow compete with the P2W guns.
A lot of old weapons are completely removed from the game, like, literally 80% of all old weapons you remember. And I think all the weapons and maps are still inside the code and inside the client, just not made available in the game and they also try to play tricks where they slowly re-introduce old weapons and pretend like they are brand new or something when people had been playing them since 2011... 9 years ago.
The other thing that's different is that a lot of old maps are completely removed from the game:
- Burning Temple
- Slim Fox
- Showdown
- Castle Rock
- Snake Eye (I think)
- Chromite
- Supply
- Hellhound (both new and old)
Instead they have introduced some new maps, that nobody knows and are absolute garbage, I just don't understand why would they remove old maps that people loved and replaced them with garbage maps that nobody cares about and just plays, because they have no choice.
Also nobody plays Escort or Co-Op or anything... instead everyone plays Annihilation, Demolition and E-Boat.
It's pretty dead and disappointing what the current AVA is. I think this AVA release will be a massive failure in the West. If they at least remove the P2W and just replace the skins with cosmetics, a.k.a. keep the original stats of the weapons, like Black Squad did... and I commend Black Squad that despite how bad the game is doing, 3 years later they still don't have anything that's P2W. If the P2W in AVA is removed for the Global release, the game just MIGHT make it, but that's still 50/50 in my opinion. But then again I don't think they will do that as they probably plan to launch one global version for the whole planet and they need to keep it the same across all regions so the P2W is probably here to stay... sadly.
so yeah...
You can play for yourselves right now. The Taiwanese version is available to play everywhere without VPN. You just need to create an account, download, install and patch the game and upon log in you will be prompted to verify your account with a phone number in some select countries, like USA, Germany, Taiwant and a few more. I used some website that provides a phone number and then shows the SMS code so you can paste it back into the game and play... it really takes less than 5 minutes to do it, there is also an English patch for the whole game, then the only drawback that remains is having 250 ping.
Here's the official website for TW AVA: https://ava.mangot5.com/ava/index
You can see for yourself that the Taiwanese version is exactly that. From what I understand the Japanese version is slightly ahead and the Korean version is the most ahead of them all, but they are all the same joke that I described.
It just does not feel like the AVA we all fell in love with back in the day. All you will see is ugly skins and everyone using custom character skins that look like clowns, P2W weapons that literally melt you as soon as they point their crosshair in your direction. Everyone plays Demolition and Annihilation and that's the whole game.
You wanna play Escort? Forget about it.
Co-Op? Dream on.
You wanna play with some old weapon that you used to love? F**k you, because it's removed from the game and you can't.
You wanna play and old map you loved? Go f**k yourself, because that's also removed.
But hey, you can have a grenade that's a dolly or a piece of chocolate, or a gun that looks like it got spray painted by some kids...
I used to enjoy playing Annihilation and Escort to warm up and then play Demolition, when I get tired from Demolition, I'd go back to Annihilation and Escort and after 5-6 hours I'd had enough and had to take a real break.
Now I can't play Escort, I can play Demolition or Annihilation on some weird maps that I haven't seen before and don't know their layout and don't care to learn it.
I used to love guns like Spectre M4, KBP PP2000, FAMAS, Remington R4, AUG A1 and AUG A3, M14 EBR and lots more, but they are not even in the game. Even the SA58 Para is not in the game as far as I'm aware, literally everyone considers it the most iconic weapon in the game, but it's not there.
To me this AVA feels like a cruel joke. I originally stopped playing around early 2015, when Aeria was still holding the license for the game, right before it got transitioned to EnMasse. Even at the time, the game was a shadow of its former self.
It already had stupid maps that nobody cared about, it was riddled with cheaters and the P2W aspects of the game greatly outweighed the F2P aspects. I remember when I started playing in 2010, when IJJI published the game, there were like 5-10% of people using P2W skins, when Aeria took over, that quickly increased to like 60-70% by late 2013 and by 2015, 90% of people were using P2W skins and now F2P players were the minority.
I'd be OK with the P2W if they did not butcher the old content, like how they changed Escort so the tank repair remained even if everyone was killed or RPG boxes had their doors removed. They even changed many things like the main menu, the iconic main menu music theme and all kinds of things that there was absolutely no reason to change. Right now they even changed the gun models of many old weapons like M4A1 and you can see how much more detail they have, but the maps are the same old low-detail maps. Why bother changing the gun models if everything else looks old? Just keep the old guns and focus on overall improving the game, not butchering it by removing or replacing content that nobody cared about.
How they removed old maps from the game and instead replaced them with new, uglier maps.. or how they revamped old maps like Black Scent to be winter or Cold Case to have no roof, Hellhound got a version Hellhound 2.0 that was garbage compared to the original map... Showdown and Slim Fox were removed.
I don't know, if I am to be honest, I'd rather AVA not return at all if it's going to return in this garbage state, let just the good memories remain and move on to different games. It sucks that all the online games that I loved either got changed too much or got shut down and now AVA, which I loved is coming back, but just like AVA Dog Tag before it, it just isn't the same fun game that it used to be and there is nothing we can do about it.
They haven't completely removed Escort, but it's separated into two sub-game modes - Breach and Escort. Breach being slightly different and like an easier version, but don't quote me on that.
So not only does they split the mode into two, but it's confusing which one a person would want to play. And in the end nobody plays either.
I'm hoping that this is just some Asian playerbase preference and when it launches here people will be playing Escort. I honestly can't imagine AVA without the Escort and if it isn't played here, I will be pretty bummed out.
It also can signify that the TW version is dying and that's why nobody is playing Escort.
