Critical Hits
The AI is critical hitting my guys almost every attack. What gives. How is this calculated?

Also in a skirmish on normal difficulty. The AI ran into me with a full stack of level 5 tier 2 units by turn 7. Unless I am missing something... This is obviously cheating.

Critical hits are calculated by comparing accuracy versus evasion. I don't know the formula.
Yes, the AI is cheating like almost every other AI in computer games.

This post is 7 years old but I just bought this game and I wanna know what in gods name were these developers doing with the crits in this game? Almost every early enemy crits MORE OFTEN than they land regular hits. I don't know about later enemies because I will probably never get there.

I think it's related to your initiative. Like if the unit you,re against is much faster than yours it has more chances of crits. That's why imperial assassins can go crazy early on.

Crit chance:
(Accuracy-Evasion)/Evasion=X
Y=crit_bonus from the settings

Х=1 then Crit chance is 25%-Y
Х=2 then Crit chance is 50%-Y
Х=3 and above - then is 75%-Y
min chance is always 5%.

Is there a mod that makes the game enjoyable (gameplay wise: less crit for the AI and more "normal" hits for the player) ?

i'm new, i'm playing on hard. Reaching end of the demoniac legion campaign (#2) just fine (e.g. the game is enjoyable). I just had to drop the difficulty on act 5 because the start is heavily scripted and it was not doable.

The AI does not crit more than you do. Now if you counter a unit with high accuracy (AI) with one of yours with low evasion, then yeah, it's constant crits and it's normal. Just adjust your lineup and strategy.
