Original > remaster ?

I had more fun playing the original somehow the remaster doesn't make me wanna finish the game anymore....

How about a real remake like FFVII

I am enjoying the remastered quite well. Although the replayability of the game is very low for me since it can be tedious to keep farming/drawing for spells each playthough. Wish there is a new game+ where we can keep our spells. I would not even mind if they just allow us to keep the lowest version of each spell. Just not complete zero haha.

As for the remake. We could only hope. I think if they do take real effort for a remake of FF8 that it could really be awesome. Take out the bad things and add more stuff etc. If Done right, in my opinion FF8 can be better than most FF series.

FF8 for me has a very good foundation. It was just not implemented that well because Square was experimenting with a lot of stuff and halfway through actually semi-abandoned their effort on the game to concentrate on FFIX.

You dont need to draw spells. the most efficient way to get spells is by item refinement and mugging items from enemies. Drawing is solely to check what spells the enemy has and occasionally to draw out GFs from bosses. Refining cards is also a bonus way to refine cards into items and then refine them into magics

You can go from this to get spells:

Mug item > Refine into magic
or
Card > Refine to Item > Refine into magic

Drawing spells was never endorsed in the game, you could by why would you?
No other system in the whole Final Fantasy franchise excluding FFTactics can beat the sheer freedom the junction system gives imo. Coolest game fr fr

My only big gripe with the remaster is how the pre renders look. If there were an option to just use the pixelated PS1 backgrounds then I could just turn the resolution waaaay down and have it just look like the PS1 version with new fancy models. Turning the resolution all the way down on Remastered makes the pre-renders being blurred more tolerable and I could definitely get used to it but I decided to opt out and just get the old PC version with a few mods to make it close enough to the PS1 version (I could've emulated it IG....but I wanted the achievements+steam hour count lol) Really just depends on your preference/how much you care abt that kind of thing for my case. Shame how the pre renders look bc I really love those new models.

The only original versions of this game are the PS1 and disc based PC version. Every other version has NOT been original and is lacking. The original source code to FFVIII was lost during the chaos while developing both FFVIII and FFIX since both games were developed at almost the same time. I own both Steam versions and prefer the remaster. The original steam version has garbage controller mapping and have fun trying to remap it without having to install a secondary program in the background. The remaster if nothing else recognizes controllers properly.

There are many easy to install (just drag and drop) mods that enhance the graphics.

And we're going to expect a large pack that updates most of the backgrounds in the upcoming months.

As for the installation (and modfile location) i recommend a YT tutorial.

Download FF8 Demastered, it's on Github, and actually lets you disable background filtering.

can you change the screen to 16.9 ? i dont relly like the screen ratio

Screen is, unfortunately, always in a black box, for BOTH versions.

There are SweetFX or whatever presets that remove it, and maybe sometimes we will get updated demaster mod with proper widescreen and framerate in combat but for now it's boxy time.

Not that I know of, this is another problem with PC version, we don't get full analog control, FF7 has a mod that fixes that, FF8 still doesn't. Hopefully in the future.

The current version of Demaster doesn't do that, but a new one is in the works, I don't know for how long.
