abolishing random

ok this is really starting to annoy me. i have just arived on the space station with rinoa and i'm trying to get rid of the random rule so i can try to get the alexandra card. but i'm stuck on the elemental rule. and there appears to be no soft reset for steams version of the remastered ff8. unless i'm missing something. ctrl+r don't work and alt+f4 just closes out the whole game. even the meniu . anyone out there know something i don't?

Abolishing the random rule can be a pain, especially if it is not done in Galbadia Garden or Dollet, where it's fairly easy to do so.

My suggestion? ♥♥♥♥ trying to abolish it. Just player her with the random rule until you manage to beat her and reload whenever you lose

I mean I use a save editor to change the rule flags on my save file.

Or you can spend time reading guides, resetting over and over and manipulating the game until you get what you want and save.

Both lead to the same outcome.

This won't be relevant to your specific situation, but since the thread was so generally named, I figured I'd share the following info:

How to abolish Random from Dollet specifically:

You need the Queen of Cards in Dollet for this to work.

• First, go to Timber and pick up the rules from there. To do this, challenge the left guard at the entrance and refuse him until he stops asking to mix rules. Then accept a game and on the rules screen, you can quit (you don't have to actually play a game with him, just getting to the rules screen is enough to pick up the region's rules).
• Go back to Dollet, go to the hotel, and save at the save point.
• Do a hard reset. For the Steam version, closing the game and then re-launching it works. A soft reset will not work.
• Run out of the hotel and immediately turn around and run back into the hotel.
• Now challenge and refuse the girl standing next to the save point twice.
• Now challenge and accept, but quit without playing.
• If you haven't already spread Open, the first time you do this it will spread Open. Head back to Timber and repeat the above steps. This time it will abolish the Random rule. This works 100% of the time.

have you tried quitting from the original menu to go back to the title screen for soft reset?

the amount of times you need to refuse a game before entering the card game to then quit out of it to affect the rules seems to vary between npcs.

ESC menu is the hard reset, the original menu is the soft reset.
