How to Activate Boosters and Cheats

Since I could not find the answer for the FFVIII Remaster anywhere on google for the life of me, (cause I keep getting results for the old version), I'm putting it here since I found someone's comment that helped on a different discussion.

You need to have a save file loaded up before you can activate them. Do NOT pause the game for cheats. The button will be greyed out (idk why).

If you're using your KEYBOARD, you need to press the ESC key to open the system menu. You should see a Cheats button and a Boosters button listed there. Should be self-explanatory from there.

If you're using a CONTROLLER, you need to hold down LT + Left Stick to open the system menu. You can find the cheats and boosters through there.

Again, if you want to use cheats, DON'T pause the game before opening the system menu.

Hopefully this saves others the struggle I had to go through to find this out, especially since I play with a controller lol.

so whenever i hit the ESC key it just brings up "do you want to quit the game?" with a yes or no answer only.

Edit:...i have the FF8. not remastered...how the hell did i get here

I remember that the old version of FFVIII didn't have cheats? If you need them, you might have to look for a trainer like a modifier.

I was gonna say I'm pretty sure that's not what it's supposed to do until I saw your edit lol, yeah the cheats were only added to the remaster

Apologies to bring up an old topic but been searching for answers. I'm struggling to find the boosters on my steamdeck. The controller layout by default didn't seem to work at all so I downloaded a different layout that works well....although none of the buttons activate the boosters.
Anyone know any of the community layouts that work or how to resolve.

I unfortunately don't have steam deck, so I'm not sure. I'd think the controls would work the same as a controller. You're gonna have to do trial and error with all the buttons to figure it out. I had to do that myself with this guide I posted because of the fact I wasn't getting answers online. If you manage to figure it out, you're more than welcome to share and I can update this guide while crediting you for it.

Press L3 and L2 at the same time to get the menu to pop up.
