Is this Remastered version really that bad? Going by the reviews.

This version is getting really hammered on the reviews...is it really that bad??

I remember the day I opened the PS1 version and saw those 4 CD's I was like oh man this is gonna be epic. One of my favorite games, and the best one ouf of FF 7-10.

I'm really not interested in going back and playing it on console, I'll just keep that as a conversation piece and part of my collection. .BUT I would like to play the game again.

no its good. People just need there frame rates. It runs just the same as it did on the consoles when it was first released.

This video is pretty good at highlighting the differences between versions, so you can make your own call. The only thing it doesn't mention is that the "first" steam version (not this remaster) has online DRM with the Square account that apparently is needed only once to validate the purchase and for cloud saves if enabled (if I got that right). Personally I'm playing the original psx version.

FPS are actually different in a pretty important way: the one and only difference is in battle where you have 15 fps in every version, but the original playstation has the menus running at 60 fp making using limit breaks, powering up GFs and overall navigation and usability way better (from what I see, I only own the original).

My take is no, it's actually better. There's a mental block that need to be considered before overcome. 1) My only personal gripe with the game is the lack of widescreen, this game is fullscreen only for whatever dumb reason. Luckily this can easily be fixed with a simple mod. 2) Blurry backgrounds. Fair criticism against SE laziness, but imo this doesn't make it any worse than the original. 3) Purists. People who do not like any kind of change, censorship, redraws, new models, etc. Personally I find them to be vastly superior to the originals, but once again that's one mans take, I have no personal attachment to the original nor do I care for mods, so the remastered is the superior experience overall.
