New gameplay - Balamb Garden - Awful backgrounds
I must admitt, the characters look absolutely stunning. For example, Squall's jacket and overall dress look amazing, but it would have been muuuuch much better if they had left his original face and hair. Stupid idiots!

But those backgrounds,...my god...this is just a nightmare. As if Square thinks we all are short-sighted or what. Just check this PS4 version.

Regarding the video, just mute your sound, I just cannot stand those two playing FF8 for the first time in their lives. They do not care how much Square butchered this remaster. Pitiful.

F.E. 05:43. Squall is standing in front of the Quad sign. Previously it was an object, a sign, now it is an indescribable blot.

Wow. Must look great on 4k. Thats pretty much made for a tiny screen like the Switch has. Releasing this on pc in this state is messed up.

The reworked character models make the backgrounds look even way way worse. :lunar2019deadpanpig: The moment you wish your beloved pixelated backgrounds back.

Do you know what's the most funny? That the game will look good only in certain parts of the game, when gameplay is situated in on-going FMV sequences running in background since the FMVs are supossed to be in 1080p.

They did the same thing with Final Fantasy IX. SquareEnix doesn't put a lot of effort into most of their remasters.

It's really disgusting. Amateur modders did it much better with AI.

Played the original Final Fantasy VII release shortly after release. The vanilla backgrounds looked way better than the shown backgrounds in FF8 Remastered. Like.. a million times better.

Doubtful SE puts any more effort in it. It just wasn't "remastered" for pc but for consoles and especially Switch in mind.

Hopefully modders come to save us. And even more hopefully SE learns adapting AI enhanced backgrounds into their so called remasters.

yeah, at least we have the 2013 version from which we can extract backgrounds and with the AI enhancing system make pre-rendered graphics much nicer ...because you cannot enhance the graphics with AI in this remaster, it is just too blurry to work with

i really do not understand why they ignored the AI system

But the original BGs were designed for old tv resolution (640x480). The BGs were imported into the previous release/remaster and retouched.

They cannot make new background because of copyright over legacy content usage. They can only enhance the old as much as they can.

Modders have no limit since they're not bound by contract. It's kinda ridiculous and ignorant to compare the original vs the remaster.

What are you talking about dude? :D What copyright? They cannot significantly improve the old prerendered graphics due to a loss of the source material. That is why they are only left with the option to use any of known methods to upscale pre-rendered graphics. Unfortunately they chose the cheapest and quickest way to do this and that is why these enhanced backgrounds suck.
What do you expect games rendered at 240 or 480p to look like in 1080, perfectly scaled? It's not that simple, the BGs were not intended for HD.

Yep, and like I said above, legal obligations force them to use the exact same backgrounds.

In 2013, the most popular resolution was 1024x768. Maybe it was a bit pixelated but most didn't notice since most people had screen with smaller resolutions...

Did you play Mass Effect 3 in a 4:3 resolution? I played it in 1080p in 2012 and it was an absolutely common thing...also Tomb Raider, Battlefield 4, Crysis 3 or many other games ...all that I know played these games in 1080p
