how auto save works

how auto save works? when I try to load auto its still red and cant be loaded

It doesn't auto save when you change screens inside an overall area (such as moving from the lobbyin Balamb Garden to one of the hallways in Balamb Garden), but it does auto save when you move to a completely new area (such as leaving Balamb Garden to the world map). It also auto saves after every battle for some reason.

legacy of porting to switch. since it's a mobile they thought they needed an autosave

I didnt save manualy so I thought changing screen will save automatically.. when I tried to continue I cant Load my last game

Yeah, it's after entering a brand new area, not a sub-section of the same area. It's different from how FFIX works.

I'm having a similar problem my game has not auto saved once since the end of the Missile Base mission I'm now at Fisherman's Horizon.

Check if the save folder is set as read-only.

%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY VIII Remastered\Steam\<user-id>\game_data\user\saves\

Just right-click that "saves" folder, click Properties, and then un-tick "Read-only" in the Attributes section at the bottom of the Properties menu.
