Boosting GF issue

I hit Square button during summoning animation as usual, but nothing happens. Some forums recommend holding down Select and then hitting Square, but it's not working that way either. Hitting B on the keyboard doesn't work too. Controls settings screen shows Square as the assigned button. The ability is learnt by every GF but it's not working no matter what I do.

Make sure you've actually taught them boost, I forgot that initially. then hold down whatever you have "toggle minimap" bound to.

I've checked and double checked it. The ability is learnt by every GF.

You have to keep your select held down (whatever you "back" key is set to) the entire time. This should make the hp gauges disappear. Then you should see the prompt for boosting show up during the summon animation. Mash square when the pointer is available, don't mash when there is an "x" above the pointer.
