Is this remaster really that bad?
I loved the secret of mana remaster and that has mixed steam ratings. People just can't be satisfied when their little babies get altered. Should I buy FF8 remaster or is it really that bad?

You can check around for it.

From poor options to literally being censored. The game has it all.

With this said, you make the call, i didnt see a full list of all the issues around.

If you've played the remasters of FF7 and FF9 then you'll have a pretty good idea of how this one is. It has improved models, but everything else is mostly the same. It only has digital control, just like the other two remasters. It doesn't have widescreen, but that is because they didn't touch the backgrounds, just like 7&9. It does have a few cheats too. I also enjoyed the Secret of Mana remake and personally enjoy this remaster too. I do wish it had real analog control though. I'm interested to see what mods become available, especially if there is one to improve the backgrounds.

There do seem to be a few problems with the 3X speed and some achievements are bugged.

You have 2 hours to test it yourself then refund. If you played original one you will definetly notice the "diffirence"...

The character models are okay, but man, the background being untouched is just jarring. I have the original PC version and the Steam original PC Version and there is 0 difference in the backgrounds. I'm guessing Square never found the original source materials to do anything with it and is pissing people off left and right. Honestly, I think it's justly so just because the original Steam version is still very playable and looks very decent compared this so-called "Remaster".

Well you get a better controller support, 3X speed, cheats, important character visual upgraded..... and that's it. The background, ennemies, NPCs look blurry and very ugly.

Meanwhile you have FF7 remako mod which improve the background and characters, you also have a mod called "New threats" wich change stats, add new bosses and more......... and these 2 mods are free, but FF8 remaster can't do none of that ?

I own FF10/10-2 remaster and for 20$ I have two games and the graphism are still good, I also own resident evil remastered wich of course had a huge amount of work done so when I see how lazy they got with FF8........

Btw I don't like FF8, I hate how you can easily be level 100 and ennemy scales with your level but if the remaster was good I would have gave it a chance, so instead I bought "shortest trip to Earth".

And they threw out the main character, and put in his place some snotty teenager.

Most if not all of the cheats were in the 2013 version too.

Its pretty much identical to the FF9 port in terms of the enhancements made to it
People are tearing into it just because it has "remastered" in the title.

The only thing i think is worse that the old PC release is the seems on all the polygons are really obvious due to how they filter the textures and the backgrounds were upscaled using a pretty basic filter which whether you like it or not it down to taste.

(personally I hope someone produces a ESRGAN or GigaPixel upscale of all the backgrounds like people have done for FF7 and 9).

things like the mild censorship on siren will probably be modded out pretty quick

basically the port need a lot of support to make it really shine like everyone expected (for some reason) it would but it'll be a nicer base for modders to work off of (I imagine atleast) since the music is fixed and theres the newer models and stuff

the big cheats where not in that version, all cards and items from the beginning, I could never get all the cards, of course now you will not get achievements if you use those new cheats:steamhappy:

I was tempted but the game is so easy to master once you know the mechanics I doubt I'l ever be tempted until I get 100 percent achievement. Also GF max level, thats basically game won. I can never see a situation where I'd want to use that new cheat.

The boosts are different, don't effect achievements, they just really speed the farming up and that's a good thing if you've allready completed the game dozens of times.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Final Fantasy 7 and 9 weren't coined as "Remaster" but rather just ports for PC. Enhanced ports, but ports nonetheless. This was supposed to be a remaster. I would be fine with it had they not announced as such.

This is what FF8 Remastered have:

>Some characters got censored like Rinoa, Siren... To be less sexualized
>The words ''Remastered''
>New cheats
>Characters model in HD (BUT ONLY THE MODELS) and the background is in the same poor resolution of ps1
>4:3 aspect ratio
>More expensive (Specially here in Brazil)

>The title of the most lazy remaster of 2019

I agree with everything.

The background looks fatal.
