First things first, I'd like to invite you to our Discord server[discord.gg], this is probably the best way to communicate with the community, and the devs.
Now, allow me to first respond as a competitive player, and then as a community manager.
I'm afraid most of the players from your times are gone by now. You will probably hear some familiar names from what I'm about to tell you, and you'll probably be able to find some of the old players in the future.
Since the 2009's "Great Migration" from Gamespy to GameRanger, the latter had been the most populated place up until the Steam release of BR. Most of the before-active playerbase of BR has basically dwindled away by now, people get on with their lives or migrate to other games.
Even now, the only remaining small part of 'old veteran' players prefers to reside there instead of playing the Steam version of the game. Mostly due to the issues with the multiplayer, which is understandable. You can try posting in this fan group[www.facebook.com] run by Ben, Med and Light and see who responds from that particular community.
Regarding the Steam version, there is a few returning players that have come back due to the Steam release, they play from time to time: [KH]Sora, King, the_hobbit, [LOT]RunDown. Wakizashiuk, Sunrise (Afgan), Maksilver. There is also a bunch of new players who've made considerable progress in terms of competitive games. Our place is the BR Discord server basically, and some Steam chats where people arrange games with each other.
All in all, everyone's waiting on this version to get stabilized, then 'old veterans' can switch and 'standby people' may return (including more veterans who haven't played BR for a long time).
I've been collecting the bugs for a long long time and we've also had some of the bugs sent to us from the 'old veteran' players. I'm pretty sure the list covers everything, it also gets updated with more info and the developers have access to it.
Regarding the essay - if you still remember that, it would be nice to have you write it once again. Either send it to us directly on Discord, or write in this thread, or create yours if you think it's a bit different from the improvement topic. That'd be greatly appreicated! :)
Cheers!
Ill check out the discord at some point, thank you for that info.
I remember bah as well and his wacky poems. I never played multiplayer but I was a mod on the Lotus forums and spent a lot of time on the Liquid Forums. I had a lot of fun with the Design a zen master contest, I think I placed 3rd on it. Fun times.
well no person from that time plays at the moment, there you will see some of the MBR clan but they are smurfs; none are the original MBRs like gryphon or the MIX clan. Suddenly you may see EmpressTashiro but I don't think it's the real one because it doesn't abuse the turtle like before.
Best regards
Rage/K-Dash
For the record, turtling is a valid tactic. Abusing bugs is not. Same old battle realms players I see...Maybe thats why me and my clan went on to bigger and better things in the game industry and you got stuck playing with your friends - i mean...i dont recall you visiting liquid entertainment. Lol I guess that honor was for the few of us that were actually good and not just abusive.
:*
have a great day!
Edit: Btw melkor was in everybodys clan. He always smurfed.
gg everybody!
Also...getting old somewhere over the last 20 years has made me somewhat illiterate when it comes to technology. Sooooo I have no idea how to find you outside of this lobby.
I don't know dianwang, I was a kid back then and had a good time playing BR at that time, crushing you and other n00bs, then I grew up and dedicated myself to developing as a professional, while playing other RTS with more enriching experiences, such as Company of heroes or the stronghold series, although unfortunately this genre is currently niché
PS I never played with lotus anyway, BUT YES, rushing with cannoners AND SMOKE WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITES. Best regards
Still as smart as a box of rocks i see.
Im guessing that maybe winter of the wolf maybe had some kind of impact on exposure when it released but honestly by the time the expansion came out it was a fairly dead lobby and it didnt seem to bring new players like we had hoped it would.
Side note - if anyone knows barfos where abouts I would very much like to speak with him.
Recognizing you guys as classic players pumped me up. I mildly remember bummed into DrL0V4Z several times, a while ago. He is a great player, no doubt. I would like to play with/against you guys sometimes. Though, I have a strict playing time but I play almost everyday in short session (restricted by work life). I just started playing competitively around 6 months ago. So I could learn a thing or two from you guys ^^.
You classic dudes should join us in BR community on Discord : https://discord.com/invite/FYjtaUh
to keep BR strong.
