Making a better game - let's collect ideas! The Reboot
Hello there, fellow Battle Realms warriors.

Since I started this topic back on the Steam Greenlight page of BR and it proved to be very useful, I think reopening it here on the official community section will be even more constructive.
The aim of this thread is to collect ideas on how to improve Battle Realms as a whole. That explicitely means that we are NOT reporting/discussing bugs or technical issues here, but rather should focus on additional content / gameplay mechanics itself.

To kick off, I will start with some of my own suggestions:

- Improved AI. Meaning that, for instance, any Serpent AI would finally be able to build the Necromancer's Throne in order to use one of its mightiest units.

- More camera freedom: I'd appreciate zooming more out of the landscape to gain more overview. And also why not have the ability to rotate the angle around 360 degrees?

- A new skirmish game mode: I don't have a fancy name for it yet but what I'd basically like to see is fighting with limited resources as in most other strategy games. Give a specified, fixed integer on rice fields which define how much resources can be harvested there (and which would also of course limit rice regrowth). This would furthermore motivate to create maps which have more rice fields distributed over the battlefield, forcing us players to use new tactics etc.
I know we have the Starvation mode or can set the rice regrowth rate to 0, but both are not the same as this mode would be. Starvation gives you just a fixed amount of resources in the beginning and you build an One-shot army (but nothing really over time) and rice regrowth on the other hand provides too limited resources. Of course, any suggestions at this point are welcomed!

Thats it from my side. I hope we can provide a fruitful discussion for Ed & his team in order to make Battle Realms an even greater game than it already is!

Balance the troops in each clan. It feels so unbalanced in the Dragon and Serpent clan.

Also put Kenji in the skirmish pls. It balances the heroes in the Serpent and Dragon clan.

How about starting from widescreen/high res support and fixing map bugs?

I would suggest to be able to use abilities on horses beside the horse ability
and maybe make abilities use something else other than stamina so that stamina is only for running
not sure if it's there or not but a hotkey that is unique for every ability in the game would be nice so you can use for example Yvaine's freeze without the need to drag the mouse and click on her ability
Attack move if it's not there would be nice
more space in the selected units hud so that you can see more of your units not just 8

one thing i'd like to see for the campaigns is that after the AI is literally unable to continue on the "destroy everything" missions, the mission is beaten. that way you don't have to hunt down every single building

SUGGESTION>>> Please priority the QUALITY of multiplaying EXPERIENCE first before each QUALITY minor fixtures for game GRAPHICS.

I don't need those stupid additional units and stupid abilities that make no sense, the game is perfect the way it is, but some kind of modding tool for people with those WILD ideas would be perfect solution to all. A campaign builder would be even better, imagine how this game would develop if people would be able to build their own campaigns or add custom units with mods. That's why Skyrim is alive to this day, because it supported modding.

People can express they ideas with story mods and share them with the rest of the world. We don't need to turn our beloved game upside down to please few, we can please all by adding mod support. I think that's a key to everything in this game.

***My comments and for the single player campaign.***

1. The Dragon Clan super-weapon is largely useless, especially compared to the broken OP Serpent Clan Necromancer and considering what a pain in the ass aiming the super-weapon is. Note that the 4 Ronin needed to summon the Necromancer can be instantly re-trained so basically it's just a formality, while for the super-weapon you have to commit 4 Samurai and then keep feeding it more of them.

2. The game offers a lot of skills and features, but doesn't really require you to use most of them. An army of Samurai with 2-3 Geisha and a couple Powder Keg guys is all you really need on the Dragon path. For the serpent, Ronin + Cannons + Raiders + Geisha will do the same trick. Everything else is pretty much optional and even useless. It would be nice if the game mechanics required you to make use of for example weaker units, like spearman against enemy cavalry, maybe a tiny little bit à la Total War.

3. The Wolf Clan could really use a power boost... they are a huge pushover in the campaign... compared to the 2-3 final Dragon path missions where you fight the full might of the Lotus clan, the final missions of the Serpent path aren't very challenging...

4. The Serpent Clan could be tuned down a little bit, making it slightly weaker. The only really challenging mission of the Serpent path is the return to Serpentholm and that's only because of the logistics of the mission, Otomo sends Samurai to attack you very early on.

Those are my general comments regarding the gameplay.

I agree with people who say that the game doesn't need any additional units and additional skills.

i would like a story expansion about the lotus clan as well, it would be nice, being an evil mage and all, like winter of the wolf and some success for achievement in the campaign

New graphics, this looks totally awfull, selecting units shows black rectangles on the floor, bigger maps and strategic positions like mountains or so, walls like in AOE, new clans, more than 2 players crash. LORD OF THE RINGS BATTLE FOR THE MIDDLE EARTH II from 2006 could be a perfect example.

First of all, sorry for my English.

better graphics overall. 2020 is coming and the first impression is the graphic, the game gotta look good. Lets say even if nothing changes at all, only with 16:9 and 21:9 resolution fixed, the game will be good and will attract new players already because this game is very unique in its own way.

1st priority is graphics overall and some maps so people can do multiplayer through steam.
then we can start working on other things.

future updates could be more maps. maybe some stuffs in the map that we can use. like push the rock on the hills down to kill enemies( shouldnt kill the whole team, maybe just some). hiding in the the trees and suprise attack. better map and make the map more fun. maybe some kinda monsters, animals like bears , wolves, tigers, lions, crocrodiles(water) or whatever and will be spawn at what area at what time. so both team will try to come and and have a fight there. whoever can defeat those can to get YINs or YANGs.

we have to keep the uniqueness about what unit counter what unit and even make it better. For example, The Ronin having weakness on magic, while the Warlock having weakness on cuts...

2v2 3v3 4v4... and maybe voice chat system so its easier to comunicate between alies (this can be wait). we can use something like "Team chat" and "all chat"

maybe a system with ranks ,and matching system so that the teams are divided equally somewhat.( maybe not now, since we want the game look better and more people play it first

far future updates could be more clans.

maybe something about how long should a game be, I mean that one match shouldnt be too long. 30min to 1hour is good in my opnions ( rice and water farm speed increase). If a match last like 2 -3 hours then most likely people will leave in the middle.

I have faith in this game, I'm looking forward to see this game to be one of the best RTS game coming years.
