If you are always balanced into teams and the game predicts the outcome based on this "balance" you have no way to say if you are improving or not.
I'm gonna quote myself:
Ranked is solely for placing you in games with allies and opponents of similar skill level to you. That's fair.
They only added that recently though, before that it is true that there are no rewards at all.
Code for the game, enjoy it
You just have to reach T6 rank on 3v3 or 5v5
Sounds easy right? Nope, unless you get a good grasp of the game mechanics.

In my opinion the bottlenecks on rank (as far as i have experienced, don't know if it's still the same) are:
T4
T7
T9
These ones here are where pretty much all the carried and boosted players commonly stays, since here is were skilled players commonly start appearing one after another (and if you don't know the actual meta for those tiers, you'll get smacked hard down).
> There is a soft reset after each season.
> Each season lasts for 3 updates.
> There is not much difference with T4 and T6, but there will be difference on how you react to bad plays in the long run.
> The game does not pull you down. It just keeps the matchmaking fresh by removing inactive people who no longer plays.
> Skill is gained through hundreds and thousands of games.
"If you think you are doing it right, you are doing it wrong."
- the skills you will learn in t4-t6 is just the bare minimum in surviving t8+
