Ailsa and the Frenzy trait

I put Ailsa on that tree in one of the early missions that provides the unit with the Frenzy trait.

It seems Frenzy only activates on her basic attack but not when attacking with her chain lightning skill. Is that the way it is supposed to be?

Yes, Frenzy only increases a unit's "direct" attack, not her spell damage.

Put Frenzy on a Troll charger, turn it into one shot machine.

^^that was my choice for the unit that got "frenzy" from the blood tree early in the campaign.

no regrets. that thing is very, uh, trolly. fantastic unit to use to break through lines of easily wiped troops, and then end up at a fortification all beefed up and ready to smash.

...unfortunately, trolls aren't nearly as useful against empire units later in the game, which almost all have some sort of charge break skill or weapon. still, at least they're tough. Haven't had an armored troll die yet.

charge break is easy to over come. you can apply harrasment with magic spells. Give alisa the harrasment belt, and the curse amulet, you can apply up to 4 units with harrasment and curse, with the chain lightning 2 spell. not to mention the straffing run, after she gets the dragon mount. one of my fav combo is have her straf, then follow up with a troll charge.

Also the barbarian lancer is a good charge break counter. give it the harrasment belt. it will apply harrasment with skirmish attack then follow through with a lance charge. All in one attack, and it ignore's zone of control.
