Factions?
Are there only two factions in this game? I have only seen barbarians and empire. Are there no other factions?

There are a number of minor factions and both Empire and Barbarians feature non-human unit trees. For future factions we are hoping we will sell enough to do DLCs

I think two is not enough but depending on the reviews from trusted sources on launch (meáning sources other then big game magazines) i might buy it and hope for a third faction.

Thanks for the quick answer!

I think our variety is more inside a faction with very different units and races as opposed to having more factions but essentually similar unit types with different looks.

I understand. I do not only think about it from the view point of unit variety but also from a story perspective. With just two factions you have basicly just one enmy plus the mandatory civil war to let you fight your own units. More factions allow for more varied battles and more varied storytelling with many different factions fighting each other.

Will there be evil factions we can play? Like Orcs?

The first release will allow you play th Invasion camapign and take either faction's side in skrimish or MP, we have more factions planned, but we do not categorize them as good or eveil. In essene, if you asked the Barbarians, the Empire is evil, corrupt and ruthless, if you asked the Empire, Barbarians are the scourge of civilization. If we did Orcs, they would think they are right as well :)

Ugh, please no playable Orcs. Most gamers dislike being forced to play "evil" or monstrous factions in the context of a campaign.

remember, "Fantasy" so expect some other worldly beasties :) won't break anything!

Is there some kind of necromancer army?

This concerns me...the initial release options seem rather restrictive and this makes me feel like its going to be a DLC cash grab. Only two playable factions? Only a single story-driven campaign with one playable faction? No sandbox campaign where the player can choose the faction? Why are undead units tossed in with the Empire...they just don't go together. Undead should be an entirely separate army. Love the art direction and game mechanics, but these issues are going to be a big problem.

Yes, the dearth of faction selection is a huge negative.

The above comment was edited just so the word dearth could be use in a sentence.

Although I do understand the concern, the direction a faction can go with regards of building an army is pretty loose which gives an automatic replay factor to try different builds and or different decisions. I believe we are all too use to "Good vs Evil" Man vs Orc, yadda yadda and that tends to tie down a game design to "been there done that" with a different story and art.

For those of us who are old enough to remember the days of graph paper and note paper and tunnels and trolls (please don't ask), the games were extremely addicting and fun without all the fluff of art and graphics. We're spoiled.

So :) try it out, I believe you will enjoy it once you get past the "standard" way of doing things. These guys are outside the box.

Remember, its just game, keep smiling :)

Hey, I am from a generation that were satisfied with just shooting marbles - much less pen and paper games! ;)

But two things: First, you really cannot compare current standards with past standards. Second, what made old games so thrilling was that they were almost always multi-player: You played with other friends! But this game is intended to be single player. So the fun quotient has to be higher.

And it's "just" my money. Jarhead is absolutely right to ask those questions.
