Does anyone remember Fantasy Wars (2010)?
Just, this game looks really like it in graphics and gameplay, like shockingly much. I bet the devs are fans of it :)

Actually Fantasy General is kind of the Game that Fantasy Wars was modelled on we are fans of FG1 :=)

Right, that's interesting, I'll check it out.
Thanks for responding and good luck with your launch!

I don't remember Fantasy Wars but I remember Fantasy General that was modeled after Panzer General and that's why I'm here. I applaud you for updating this game. Off to Youtube to check some reviews of the game before throwing my wallet at the screen.

Fantasy wars made one thing better than this game does: You could give your units perks in addition to upgrading them. I remember one goblin skrimisher unit I gave about every perk you could for things like ambushing, swamp fighting etc. They were absolutely deadly glass canon assassins inside any swamp or forrest, but better never get them out in the open. Also unit variety seemed to be higher. In fantasy general so far most units seem to fan out once and then be straight stat upgades next upgrade. For example once you upgrade the spears to the stronger spears you can only upgarde them into even stronger spears. Same with slingers. You can sidegrade them into scouts, but the higher tier slingers are basically the same as the lower tier ones with higher stats. Adding a few special abilities or perks would have been nice.

Actually that is done though items in our game

Of course we remember, I have this game on GOG. It was later succeeded by Elven Legacy.

I didn't play Fantasy Wars, but I played its sequels (the Elven Legacy games).

They are very good games, and I tend to recommend them for anyone who's looking for this sort of tactical game (with the caveat of mentioning that it has very strict turn limits, some people absolutely hate that).

By the way, Fantasy Wars is from 2007, not 2010.

Played and beaten both Fantasy Wars and Elven Legacy, and yeah, they were great fun. I would pick Fantasy General over either, but luckily we don't have to chose.

Yea, both good games, but FG2 reminds me also of Warlock - Master of the Arcane !

I can see certain events shaping units kinda like that, yeah, but so far most items have been underwhelming (+1 move, +1 armor, +1 morale etc.). The bonuses from events had a bit more character, with some hilarious results. For example my wolfs told me about visions of a dragonslayer, which made them more fficient against lizardkin. The image of wolfs thinking of themself as noble dragonslayers is somewhat comedic. Props to the blood oak buff carrying over when upgrading, too.

Will have to see how items change later into the campaign.

Items have rarities and some can become quite powerful, as well as adding perks, but of cpurse the main choice is in the units bringing their own perks.
