Trade routes - all for money?
Hi everyone,

I am a little confused by trade routes in PR4.

I used to play to Patrician III or IV where a trade route is basically "you buy that amount max to that price max and you sell that amount max to that price min" without any consideration by the convoy of the needs of next cities.
Which is good if you only aim profit (all based on price and maximising free space) and not providing all cities.

In PR4, I did not find how to define the same kind of trade routes. The use of different priority is disturbing to me because it creates situation where you can sell at the defined price but you are not because next cities need that stuff ...

==> but I do not ** care what next city needs. I just want to sell to a specific price and empty my ship. So disturbing to me

Is this clear? Pat players, do you have the same problem? Or do I miss something? By the way, am I crazy?

I don't define anything by amount in auto trading. I just set it up so the convoy picks of what each specific town produces. Usually 4 commodities per town. Then I set the best route by wind direction that includes 4-8 towns early and up to 20 or so later.

I control enough convoys manually to do the missions you get for delivery x amount of whatever to a town by a deadline. I also use manual convoys to meet the bonus of sending goods to the viceroy. Usually 4 manual convoys will cover both of those goals/missions

If I am short a manual convoy, I use the nearest auto convoy to where the resources are that I need to deliver to a specific town. Once its done, I set it back to its auto convoy route.

I played Pat 3 and 4 but not long enough to get to much of a navy going.

I am not sure to understand "I don't define anything by amount in auto trading". I must define a number of barrils, initialy 500 but I started a free game without automation in trade routes. Is that the problem?

the first reply seemingly ignores your question entirely.
I don't think there is a way to make your trade routes disregard the needs of other cities on the same route.

I guess I got caught up in the couple of parargraphs before the question.

I mean I just click the top left button that now reads "all off" In the screen shot below. I forgot what it reads before I click it, it might read standard or something like that. There are other posts about setting specific amounts, but the ai doesn't seem to follow it well. As QTV states above, even with specific amounts set the ai prioritizes by what towns need, and more precisely, it calculates to make profit.

By clicking that top button for each town in the trade edit window, teh convoy will buy products they each town grows/mfg's at the cheapest and sell the items the town does not produce. Auto trading works well in this game. Sorry for the long replies, its just how I am wired. JUst use any info that works and disregard what doesn't help.
