As OP stated the graphics in these games hold up very well, and there is the added bonus in PR1 and PR2 to add your own custom logo. The custom logo will be displayed on the sails of your ships.
Custom Logo in PR1 Just go in to:
- Port Royale\Logos
- Make a copy of one of the files in there, say Logo0.bmp
- Paste it and rename the new file to Logo22.bmp
- Then edit that file in your choice of photo editor eg photoshop
- Get any pic you like, shrink it down to the right dimensions:
- - 64x64 pixels in size
- - 8-bit colour depth
- Basically put/paste your desired image over the top of the Logo22.bmp file you opened, hit save and your done.
- When you launch PR1 and setup your freeplay game you'll be able to choose a logo, usually just go back one logo from the default one it starts on and your new logo should appear.
For PR2 its basically the same:
- %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Ascaron Entertainment\Port Royale 2\Logos
- Make a copy of Logo.bmp
- Paste it and rename the new file to Logo01.bmp
- Then edit that file in your choice of photo editor eg photoshop
- Get any pic you like, shrink it down to the right dimensions:
- - 96 pixels wide, 64 pixels height
- - 24-bit colour depth
- Basically put/paste your desired image over the top of the Logo01.bmp file you opened, hit save and your done.
- When you launch PR2 and setup your freeplay game you'll be able to choose a logo, usually just go back one logo from the default one it starts on and your new logo should appear.
PR2 or PR1? What about PR3 guys? yes or no?
i think i reached the gameplay limit in PR4. I could go on harder difficulty but i see no reason actually to do so - it will be the same grind.
Else , personally I prefer old Port Royale (1) because I do not like the action fencing in PR2.
Get PR(1) here : https://www.gog.com/game/port_royale
and if has to be then PR2 here : https://www.gog.com/game/port_royale_2
PLEASE NOTE that 'tinkering' may be required to get the old games to run, and if you do not want to 'tinker' then don't buy.
Anyway , GOG will give you your money back if you can not get the games to run (they guarantee that)...
also GOG regularly have sales if you do not have the doe for standard price , though of course specific games may only be on sale once in a while (?)....
Old original Port Royale (1) must be run in compatibility mode (Win XP) to run on Windows 10 and further more needs to be Alt Tabbed out of I think !
I found these discussion related to PR (1) :
