How close is this game or series to "High Seas Trader"? If not similar, are there any other games similar to it?
As I ask in the title, I am looking for a game similar to a DOS game called High Seas Trader
For those who don't know what it is, here is a link:

This game was simple yet enjoyable. The whole premise is that you are a merchant and trying to be the best (richest basically lol). You trade resources from one port to another trying to make a profit. You can encounter some quests at the inns, recruit crews, upgrade and buy a whole new ship and arm it at the docks and many other things. I liked the naval combat in this game. It wasn't too complex but it still needed effort to win your encounters.

I have been looking for a similar game for a long time but usually they are way too complex or just have a terrible feel to navigate through everything just to get to core of the game and the combat boring. If anyone knows anything similar please name them if possible.

Note: I was looking at this game in hopes of it being similar but I am reading that it is turn-based? I always skip anything turn-based (especially RTS games) unless it is something like the Total War series with an RTS battle system. Is this game turn-based as a whole or just combat?

Have you played Port Royale 3 or Patrician 4 or Rise of Venice? All of them from Kalypso and available on Steam. Take a look at their discussions and guides here on Steam (I have played all of them as well s Patrician 3 (before I had a Steam account). With hundreds of hours spent on most/each of them. My only complaint was that I wanted the AI players to play more like a human player to develop trade empires and networks of Cities and production. They fave been around long enough to develop a large set of scripted events and tasks to interact with. The basic economic trading system is similar in all of them.

Did you ever play the old game "Trade Empire"? It is about 15 to 20 years old.
