The story is good, the chars are sweet and the game looks nice. Its fun gathering the resources and making some nice dishes with it. Watching the money rolling in.

(BUT! the resolution of the game is very smal and there is NO option to change it! Its like a game from 15 years ago!
The game has been made with Unity so there shouldn´t be any problem to have some options to change to full screen or a bigger res than 640x480 in window only mode. For people with big monitors there should be problems.)

(Please note that I've sunk an additional 15 hours into this game for the Switch and iOS/Android versions, so some of my review is based on the game across all versions).

Version Differences:
-The iOS/Android version is cheaper, but requires more grinding as there is a premium currency available for purchase in this version (jewels, which are handed out much, much more freely in the Switch and PC versions, whereas they trickle in in the phone one. The game appears to be fully beatable without spending jewels, however, just like its predecessor.)
-The Switch and PC versions have higher resolution graphics, and the loading times are faster, although still present.

Review:
Overall, this game is worth getting if you want a laid-back RPG you can play to relax. It encourages experimentation, and critical thinking in the cooking portion of the game. (For example, if you know how to make Pickled Cucumber, using cucumbers and salt, you can easily apply that knowledge to make Pickled Eggplant etc.) The leveling system is also very charming and well done; you level up your skills by fighting monsters, but your actual overall level goes up by eating food. Therefore, you have to balance whether you put your dishes to work earning you gold, feeding the God of Poverty, or leveling your characters up. If you were a fan of the first game, you'll notice some cameos, but the story stands alone just fine on its own.

Overall, this game will appeal to fans of Recettear or the Atelier series, as it's a RPG with a shop and cooking simulation built in. (If I remember correctly, some people behind the Atelier series brought us this game, too.) While the game doesn't play quite the same as either of them, and isn't quite as in-depth as those in the shop simulation aspects, it's still a very fun and worthy addition to one's library.

There are a couple caveats though. If you dislike grinding and schedules, this may not be the game for you, as it requires you to adventure into the same dungeons to get ingredients; typically each in-game day will involve going into a dungeon in the morning, and then opening your tavern at night. The story is light-hearted and charming, but not something that is very in depth, so if you need a deep story to engross yourself in this won't be the game for you. The controls for PC are a little awkward, too, and would definitely benefit from the ability to remap them. (The game appears to have controller support, though.)

P.S. A tip for those new to the series: steal from every monster you meet, especially bosses!

This is an entire RPG based around one cooking minigame and I've played so, so many hours of it. If you're a completionist, this is the game for you. Collect every obscure ingredient, solve every character's goofy anime problems, fight every weird monster, find every recipe or work them out yourself. All it takes is time. I love it. I'm not even sure why. It's so satisfying to figure out recipes and collect fantasy meats and marine grasses and make a million types of tiny pixellated sushi. What's banana liquor? What's carapaccio? I don't know but I've made both and they sell like hotcakes. I think you get to cook with dragon eggs later in the game and I'm genuinely excited. I'm gonna make such a fancy dragon egg sandwich, you guys. I love this game. What the hell.

Marenian Tavern Story. This game is a wonderful RPG about running a Tavern by making unique dishes in a Fantasy World. It is the latest work of a series which gained popularity as Adventure Bar Story. As you may know, Rideon who created this game once participated in Gust's Atelier Series. It shows that they already have enough experience to create great medieval fantasy games. The Marenian Tavern Story is a collaboration between Rideon and famous mobile RPG publisher KEMCO.

The main features of this game are the story, adventure, cooking, and tavern management. The story begins with Patty's struggle with the God of Poverty. Patty is the daughter of a top-class restaurant owner and the main character of this game. But as Patty travels, her family is in crisis. Her brother Gino has been possessed by Coco, the God of Poverty and the whole family has become poor with huge debts. In this difficult situation, she rents an abandoned tavern to satisfy the God of Poverty with her delicious cooking.

In this game, adventures and cooking are quite interesting. Through adventure, you can collect ingredients and cook over 600 dishes. These materials can be collected from dungeons or bought directly from stores. The player can manage the Tavern as he or she wants and decide what food to serve. You can have the pleasure of running the Tavern in your own way.

Marenian Tavern Story, a sequel to the Adventure Bar Story, also has great RPG elements. The unique thing about this game is that the character does not level up by defeating monsters. They level up by eating the food you create. These dishes can be made from ingredients obtained by defeating monsters or acquiring them on the map. Some dishes can raise your status and resistance. As the player's party gets strongrer, you can conquer new dungeons and get better ingredients.


Marenian Tavern Story: Patty and the Hungry God. All of this game is works together well and is easy to understand. Players can enjoy a leisurely life running their own tavern. You can meet people in the tavern and there are cute animals on the farm too! Go fishing or gather vegetables and meat. In this game, you do not need to compete against others. You can just take it easy by playing Marenian Tavern Story.

So I'm not one to write reviews but I was so unhappy with this game I needed to share. Do not spend full price on this game. If it ever goes on sale for like $5 then go ahead and try it out. Basically the whole game is go into an area (one area per day) forge/ battle for ingredients, go back to the tavern and try to make some stuff out of what you gathered, open tavern, go to bed, repeat day. Basically its like the Android version but more expensive and a different story line. If you want to play this game I would recommend trying it on your phone first since its cheaper.

It is fun, but the sort of grind that only those of us who find repetition soothing while we think of other things can enjoy. If you're really into hitting buttons and knitting at the same time, this is for you!

Though, good luck without using a recipe guide. And, I mean this with all sincerity, screw the random jewel drops. You can tell it was designed with a cash shop in mind...

Story is cute and unobtrusive, and I love the characters, though. Meandering as this was, I hope it was of help.

Each day in the game you pick 1 location on the map to explore and gather ingredients, and then you cook those ingredients to stock up your tavern in the evening.

Pros:

• Attractive, clean anime portraits and great pixel monster designs
  
• Some unexpected depth, e.g. you have to switch recipes up regularly or customers get sick of them. There are quite a few secret chests hidden around the game. There are lots of spells to use in combat with various abilities, etc.
  
• Lots of milestones which give you rewards - collect 50 recipes, make 10,000g in a single day, fill up your bestiary, etc. Good game for someone who likes to 100%.

Cons:

• The main issue is that it's very grindy. You need a lot of ingredients to keep your tavern stocked so you spend the majority of the game running around fighting the same monsters over and over and over again. The reason that the grinding isn't fun is because the gameplay is not very engaging. Gathering ingredients is just clicking on a tree. Cooking food is just clicking on the recipe if you have enough ingredients. Running the tavern is automatic and you don't serve anyone or talk to anyone.
  
• It's a half-assed mobile port. It didn't have fullscreen when it released (it does now). The cash shop from the mobile version still exists in game and you can exchange your "jewels" for 600,000g right at the start of the game (which would make money irrelevant).
  
• The game is VERY similar to the developer's previous mobile game, Adventure Bar Story. The gameplay is pretty much identical, a lot of the art assets have simply been copy-pasted. Taking that into account, the game is VERY EXPENSIVE.
  
• Game environments are pretty basic-looking
  
• Characters are okay. The protagonist is dumb but sweet which is a bit cliche. The other characters are more compelling but there's not quite enough character interactions.

I did enjoy the game and wanted to complete it, despite the flaws, so I was struggling to decide whether to recommend it or not. But then I tried to open the game and it simply showed me a white screen. I am probably 70-80% of the way through the game, and it just stopped working. I tried reinstalling, verifying files, etc, and nothing helped. The developers are not giving any support on the forums. Thumbs down.

A fun but time consuming game that reminds me of Reccetear for its aspect of gathering ingredients to sell in your store. The plot is short and you get what you see on the back of the package.

Gameplay wise the controls are ok. Leveling up your characters doesn't really give you a reward as you get more rewards for beating the same monster over and over again, this is because you unlock skils by collecting a certain amount of points based on 5 categories.

a day in gameplay consists out of you going out to visit 1 zone outside of your village, be this dungeon, town, field or anything else the day is over and you move to the next day.

Overall it is fun but repetitive and becomes stale quick. It's good to play in short bursts and to play it over a long period of time.

It is an okay game, the main problem is that. The game's story doesn't really get started until after your restaurant is ranked 10. This takes a long time to do, let alone not enough materials drop. So, it is constantly a slog.

My guess is because how this game was originally developed for mobile, so those practices are in play to try and encourage spending. Taking out that portion of it, it left the game just proceeding slowly. I advise if you play this game, to download cheat engine. Find the value for your gems, and lock it at 9999. Buy everything you need, this will help a lot to speed up the game, but not the farming part of it.

Anyway, the story revolves around Patty, who runs a restaurant because the God of Poverty created a situation where her father got scammed by Gustav, the antagonist of Adventure Bar Story. Much of the game doesn't really go anywhere, but explains Gustav's part in it. And eventually, it links into Patty's father, and his reason for avoiding his family, and his determination to pay his debts off.

The game then introduces Coco's alter ego, which should have been built upon close from the start. Rather, this was sorta tacked on near the end.

The system itself for the game, you go out and gather materials. It is a pretty simple turn based game, with the basic stuff. You also have crafting, which is more useful than the equipment you find. You level up by eating food, which you can use certain items to reduce your stomach level to keep eating. Once a day you can choose a location to explore and skip to get some materials.

Overall, it is an okay game. Though, it seriously needed at least more materials dropped per battle. I'd recommend the game on a sale, but not at full price. Note, I tried to beat this game like four times, and dropped it each time. This is the first time I actually beat the game. It is a light hearted game, but is dragged down by how tedious it is.

It really is a sequel to Rideon's previous game Adventure Bar Story (2012) on iOS. Gameplay and premise is basically the same between both games with an upgrade on the graphics. I'd wait on getting the game when it goes on sale though. Also the keyboard controls are a little weird so it'd be great of there was an option to change keybindings.
