Game dead?
I thought they wanted to make an announcement in advance when they would indefinitely shut the server down. On June 2nd the game still worked ...

Same. The last time I tried to play it worked fine but now it won't start a session.

They left it online longer than expected, this message is from a post made in 2023.

Game Servers: The servers will stay online for you to play on until sometime next year, when we will take them offline. You will not be able to access the game after we take them offline.

I know there has been an announcement. I was expecting them to give us prior notice because of this in their original post:

„We will eventually take the servers down later next year, but we’ll communicate this well in advance once we have more information.“

Yeah, I know and I was, too. I only pointed out the other message to show that they left the game online much longer than they initially said they would.
Communication was never one of their strengths.

You had to trudge through Discord just to get some basic information.

They left us without any kind of information for over a year! Not a peep from them about a thing. You know? Us. The people who are paying their bills.

Just to finally emerge and tell us what we already suspected for months.

Again. I blame Avalanche, their parent company, for this avoidable outcome because they obviously didn't want to put more people on this game nor invest any money in it.

They're about to release version 1.0 with a new map but it was apparently so badly cobbled together that they pulled the plug completely on it. Like WTF was going on over there for over a year?

FYI, the game is actually peer to peer. The only thing that's handled by their backend i.e., their server(s) was the progression and the "meta" nonsense.

Stuff that all CAN be handled client side, but, due the aforementioned reasons, it isn't.

Many of us brought this issue up multiple times during its lengthy "development" since we could already see the writing on the wall but to see them downright abandon a title without any kind "sunset" patch i.e., a last quality of life patch that at least ensures that you can keep playing the PRODUCT YOU PURCHASED but no. Not from this company.

I have been here since Steam's inception. This will be my first EA title that pulled this kind of rancid ♥♥♥♥.

Suffice to say.

I, somebody who owns over 2K titles on this Steam account alone, won't be purchasing any Avalanche Studios Group ever again. Even if the studio is remotely associated with them? On my ♥♥♥♥ list you go!

That includes future Just Cause titles. Which i am a big fan of. Well. I was, anyway.
I guess that means its not playable anymore ? Or can you solo play in a offline mode with bots ?

Nope, they couldn't be bothered to use any of that EA money to add an offline mode. And I will be joining those that will not be bothered to buy any of their other releases ever again.
Literally played this like a week before the OP and it was still working them, just went to go on and nothing.

The community should be able to bypass the limitations SOMEHOW. The game didn't used to require log-in, further, the online side is mostly BS to start with. Before, if you logged into the game then literally unplugged your internet, you could still play as long as you wanted. Your progress was saved, your save itself is local, there was nothing lost, the account system is literally just how they take the game from us. The only functional thing the account system did was track the 'war effort' map stuff, prior to the account log-ins you could play multiplayer no problem.

It's all pretty BS though. Hopefully someone out there has the know-how to make an offline mod, there's NO reason it can't exist.
Its not even on Steam store... how did you end up here? Plug was pulled. Most of us just wasted money again.
