do you mean the player shield? It activates when you get hit and lasts for a defined set of time:
Ben: 0,75 seconds
Rick: 1,0 seconds
Thoraxx: 1,25 seconds
Shield duration can be upgraded with perks.
Shield makes you invulnerable while it lasts, it can be used to clear bullets and damage enemies. Shield damage can also be upgraded and deals a lot of damage by default.
Only way to repair hull is by killing the boss and finishing the level.
There is a perk to increase the health planned:
Thicc - Additional Health
Though if there is an enough of a casual player base i may put some kind of easy mode with health restoring before boss fights, but that would also include a new leaderboard, adjustments to user interface and some refactoring of the code, which i'm unable to do until game hits consoles.
I am not sayin' you should implement easy mode, or such, just some kind of a way to get ANY hp back... consider giving a little hp for score thresholds, or combos, or simply some kind of a choosable upgrades, like "hull repair" for slow repairing. I played a lot of game like steredenn and almost every game has some kind of a "comeback" resolution, i could not find it here.
Difficulty is pretty fine, iam okay with that.
Anyway, great game, enjoyed it so far, will give a positive review. These were just some thoughts.
Thx for the clarification on shields... i would say, if it only activates, when u get a hit, and lasts for 1 sec, thats really not useful for bullet clearing, and attacking. Somewhat the shields were my biggest complain in the game, becouse i did not really "feel" them, and after your explanation, i can see, why. Why would i want to attack with a shield, if i losing hp with this "offensive" behaviour which lasts for 1 sec, then i am vulnearable in a bad situation. Very risky.
Yeah, you're right about the health, i'll figure something out.
Personally I think healthpacks are more suitable for games where you have stand alone levels or games where your HP doesn't reset
