When you click empty space, it drops the cross hair at fixed coordinates, which are relative to the Sun. And your map is following your ship near OKLG, which is rapidly orbiting to the right at the beginning of a new game.

I think you can get crosshairs in empty space that won't drift if you target something like your ship or OKLG first, then switch the nav mode to Map Controls, and use WASD to reposition the crosshair to where you want it. Like an offset from a vessel.

Does that work?

Having it set to Target or Ship and map controls lets me move it around without issue, but if I put no target and map controls I can move around but still drifts to left so not a huge issue, but when I select no target I normal think nothing at all not the sun lol, but ya thanks for the help loving the game so far

I second this. With Nothing targeted in Nav Map, center of map drifts left and down a little.

That's because you are selecting a set point in space, but you and everything around you is travelling at speed(roughly to the right, at this point in the orbit with the default map orientation) so you rapidly move away from that set point. Your displayed velocity is only relative to your target.

even if there is a logical explanation for the behavior, it is still really annoying. when K-Leg has rotated out of LoS, it would be helpful to be able to put my nav point in empty space to help guide my flying around to the opposite side. i often overshoot during this manuever as the relative coordinates to K-leg arent as helpful. but being unable to place a cursor and have it stay in position prevents me from getting actual, helpful coordinates.

im a good enough pilot at this point that it isnt a big deal, but when i was just learning it was a real pain in the *ss. and it doesnt look like a feature, it looks like a bug.
