Pirate ships can't be sold?

So, I got boarded by a pirate but managed to kill them. Their ship was small, but well maintained and fully kitted out, but I can't sell it back at the station.

Is this a bug, or intentional? Seems like a very strange design choice if so.

As of now, you can only sell what you own. You can own something by legally purchasing and registering it.

Just my humble opinion, but I think it makes sense. In the wild west, legitimate horse seller was expected to provide a bill of sale proving they had the right to sell the horse. A proof they are not stolen from someone. Like, how would Ogiso's Bank believe what you are trying to sell is legal, if it's not yours? Where is this ship from? Are you a pirate? 👀

That said, I can't tell if it's a bug or not.

While you can't directly sell a pirate ship whole, what you can do is strip the ship for parts like a normal derelict and then sell the parts. Although I believe that the same licencing rules apply with pirate ships as they do with normal derelicts.

Currently, selling ships you don't own is not a thing. All you can do is salvage parts.

I do feel like there should be a black market ship buyer, that will buy stolen ships you physically bring them, for lower rates than the normal legal ship market. It would be a fun bit of game play to be able to rig derelicts up to be bare bones flyable and bring them in - Or to be able to bring in those police vessels and sell them off without having to dismantle them slowly.

The cops can bust you for it, but honestly at that point you're probably just going to laugh them off until ship-to-ship combat is added!
