airlocks and pumps

My starter ship came with two pumps around the airlock: one oxy tank supplying the ship, and one supplying the airlock, with both in auto. There was one low pressure alarm in the ship, but it was not attached to the pump (defaulting pump to off).

Can somebody explain this set-up? Is it just RNG mischief, or is this set-up supposed to work out of the box? Without connected alarms, the pumps won't do anything. Opening the door from cabin to airlock should fill the airlock, so why have that 2nd pump?

On a related not, I have seen vents on some wrecks - how and when should those be used?

No RNG involved. The Ostrawiki article on Airlocks should answer your question[ostranauts.wiki.gg].

Vents are used to move atmo between otherwise closed rooms. For example to distribute atmo from a central room around the ship. There are also Auto Vents which will close automatically if a pressure change is detected (these can be a bit harder to use).
