How to make a Fresh, Home-Baked Reactor:
Ingredients (minimum viable full reactor):
2x Field Coils
4x Reactor Core Segments
1x MHD
1x Pellet Feed
1x Fuel Regulator
1x Laser Capacitor
1x Laser
1x Cryo Pump
1x Cryo Tank
1x D2O Tank
1x He3 Tank
Instructions:
Create a 5x5 floor space for your Field Coils, remove the single centre floor tile. At this point you may also wish to ensure you have enough space for the reactor as a whole. Use the Install menu or install order to use placeholders and make sure you won't run out of room! The Reactor Core requires a 5x5 floor space and the Tanks require a 7x7 floor space (as they occupy space 'under' the ship. While you're planning this out why not pre-install your Cryo, D2O, and He3 tanks?
Once you've check your space requirements install your Field Coils, this is the centre of your Fusion Torch! The Field Coils comprise of two parts placed on top of each other and both will need to be installed before you can move on to the next step.
Once the Field Coils are installed you can install your Reactor Core. The Reactor Core is made up of four quarters and will install directly over the Field Coils. It has three important corners, two input/outputs and one control panel. You will want to make sure the control panel is accessible!
Now your Reactor is all ready you can add your Cryo Pump. MHD, Laser Capacitor, Laser, Pellet Feeder, and Fuel Regulator. All of these items need to be attached to the attachment points on the Reactor. Arrange them in a manner that you find most pleasing!
If you didn't earlier, now is the time to install your Cryo, D2O, and He3 tanks. You'll also want to make sure you *have* D2O and He3 in those tanks! You can do this through the reactor panel or the Print Status button on the Nav Console.
Once this is all done you're ready to cook! Simply access the reactor panel, switch your PWR BUS to BATT, then follow the light checklist on the bottom left of the panel. After pressing the ignition switch your PWR BUS to CHRG to start enjoying the fruits of your labour!
(I think I caught everything there. You can have more Lasers/Pellet Feeders but this is just for the minimum. If in doubt take a look at built ships in the Ship Broker to get a better idea of options.)
You can buy used ships with working reactors. They are just expensive. I'm saving up for one right now.
Goto Commercial and talk to the ship kiosk, you can buy derelicts and used functional ships there.
Additionally, they are going for realism, that is obvious, and i actually find it quite fun. The difficulty curve is insane yes. The learning curve is insane, yes. That really don't make it any less fun, for me it makes it more fun and more immersive.
What isn't fun? The damnable frame hitches that started popping back up in force with the .5 update. Or my favorite from last night, undocking from kleg and being spawned under the surface of Ganymede.
Just because it's realistic and hard doesn't make it not fun. Just maybe not to you. And for that, I am sorry, however, if you keep working at it, it does get a lot easier, and a lot more fun, especially when you get into customizing your ship with salvaged upgrades and such.
To the Dev team at BB games. Keep up the good work, keep the game going in the direction that its going in. Some of use have great appreciation for the work and effort you've put into this game. Just for the love of all that is sacred PLEASE FIX THE HITCHING!
I get it, i wanna get to venus too, but i'm still a long way from being ready. Patience grasshopper :)
Much appreciated tritton82 for the detailed instruct, what remain is the old reactor i'm running a new build game but an old ship design i made on build 0.13 can this be the case of the problem
Regards
Yeah could be. The old reactors aren't designed to work with the new reactors.
So it makes sense to go there but you need a ship that will comfortably fly on torch engine rather than pure rcs.
