Question recruiting crew members

So I found a lone ship breaker stranded on a derelict. They had the perfect skill set, so I sweet talked them and recruited them (they accepted my job offer).
Then I ordered them to get to my ship and they kept running around the derelict.
I ordered them to follow me and they did right until the step of the airlock and then just stayed there.
So after that I converted the derelict to one of my ships (installed a nav console and tapped the gas) and they showed that they embarked, but they still don't show up on the roster and they are just pacing around.

So what do I do to get this stubborn idiot to actually work for me?

you need to go into the roster and set the 'disembark' option to thumbs up, they wont go through the airlock on your ship either way if that's thumbs down (its meant to keep them on the ship when they're already on the ship, so they don't accidentally space themselves)

Like I said they are not on the roster.

you should be able to switch to them by hitting capslock and manually moving them into your ship, even then though they'll refuse to do it because by default they're set to disembark disabled... but if they aren't part of your crew then you cant switch at all.

but yeah, the reason they wont move through your ships airlock is the disembark option... so if you cant change that then i dunno.

When you say they accepted the job offer, do you mean they accepted the "suggestion: jobs" or "gambit job offer" because they can accept the offer of the interview, but you also need to do the gambit and then wait for them to accept it. The conversation system in the game seems a bit annoying at the moment, because it doesn't lock NPCs into it with you and they can just walk away and do something else mid conversation.
