Guess you can't even turn it on or off optionally.
But whatever, removed from wishlist, onto the next indie release, there are enough out this autumn.
Lol triggered snowflake, get over yourself.
Ok, bye.
Game is good by the way.
What an edgy teen. "How dare someone have pronouns?!?"
From what i can gather the idea is to evade referring to a character using a pronoun that assumes a gender for said character. For example, "Him" would refer to a male character, whereas "Her" would refer to a female. Which can be evaded using the word "They" or "Them" as those are gender neutral (Eg: Can be used for both genders). And apparently there are also specific pronouns for people who don't identify themselves as either male or female (Which i wasn't even aware of until a couple minutes ago - you learn something every day).
Now, this seems to create one of those wonderful ideological conflicts:
- The extreme on the one side being that a person with a gender identity that doesn't fit "Male or Female" demanding they be addressed with their preferred pronoun (Otherwise it would be a social injustice, eg woke).
- On the other side we have the group of people that considers "gender identify" to be a social fad or complete nonsense and they therefor considers the use of gender pronouns to be complete nonsense. With any medium catering to it attempting to score brownie points by pandering to a minority.
In other words, think of it as an extension of the LBGTQ+ debate where people either support, don't mind or feel against the concept and tend to be vocal in that opinion. For the rest of us: You'll see characters being referred to as "They" or "Them" i suppose, regardless if the character on screen is a male or female character. The degree of offence one takes from this is up to the person reading it i suppose.
As a non native English speaker i suppose i'd have a slight preference for "Him" or "Her" sheerly because "They" and "Them" are also used as a plural. But other than that this entire thing is really quite the none-issue. Unless there are some more biases in play that make a person feel more strongly about the topic.
Have you bothered to try the game for yourself, or are you simply pulling a "Cooper Lawrence" here by jumping on the bandwagon? If that name doesn't ring a bell: The woman who screamed on TV that Mass Effect was sexualized content that featured full frontal nudity, before being forced to retract that statement and having to admit she never even played the game (It's been about a decade since).
The game offers three choices one can select from for character pronouns:
- "He / Him"
- "She / Her"
- "Them / They"
Anyone who wishes to be "Him" or "Her" can select said option, without any detrimental effect as far as i can tell. And while i don't care for the "Them / They" option myself i suppose it's there for people who want it.
I have a hard time seeing how this option "discriminates" against anyone as no one is forced to pick or use it. When you get a drink at Starbucks, are you complaining they serve three types of coffee instead of two, just because you don't like one? No one forces you to order the one you don't like, eh?
Then again, i suppose the rest of the comment speaks for itself, going on a tangent that's not relevant in the slightest to the game (Congratulations for feeling comfortable in your skin by the way. But what part of that was relevant to the game?). If anything the entire "There are gender pronouns" things is just drawing in some of the more strongly opinioned people on that matter who feel a need to voice their thoughts without any relation to the game itself.
Have you considered that maybe, just maybe, this isn't a cynical cash grab, and the devs just wanted everyone to feel included? No one's forcing these choices on you--you're free to just play as a man or a woman.
And who is attacking you? I'm a man, I identify as man--literally never, in my entire life, have I been attacked for this. Maybe once or twice by some crazy person on Twitter, but Twitter =/= real life. I've also never met a gay or queer person that thought they were superior. Who are these people you're talking to? I feel like you have a very warped view of them.
The energy you put out is the energy you get back.
People act as if the mere existence of people who are different and want equal rights and representation is infringing upon theirs.
