Why did RWS...
Have Akella make this game? Did they even have a good reputation for making games to begin with?

That's actually a really good question. Too bad there isn't an answer.

Probably because outsourcing to Eastern Europe is a lot cheaper. Lower labor costs, less strict working hours. Trashmasters created Postal III. It's all about saving costs.

Postal 2 did really good in Russia, so Akella wanted to fund and develop a third Postal game, and they let RWS be in charge of the game design and style art. There was a Russian recession, sadly, and Akella had to switch their development team to the less experienced B-team who would work for cheaper. Akella had to change a bunch of RWS's original ideas so that the B-team could make the game with less difficulty.

Actually there is, the CEO of RWS explained all this in an interview, i'll paraphrase
1. Project started out great
2. Russsian economy tanked and put Akella on the ropes
3. Akella had to get rid of their best dev team (the one working on the game) and bring in a new less experienced team
4. A year of cutting back on the game and throwing out gameplay to save money followed
5. On the verge of bankrupcy they released the game in pre alpha to cash in

and that my friends is the sad story of Postal 3
Simply put, RWS ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up big time.

RWS had no control over the economy so its not their fault, what had to happen happened for the sake of fufilling a promise they made to their fans. it was merely an unforseen inconvenience and im sure if RWS had the data for the game from akella then they would make it right and probably even toss in extra as a small token to the fans.

Hate not the company for their release but the situations that made their release stale and hope that they could one day be able to go back and clean it up if they ever get the data from akella.

Wasn't RWS' fault at all, they literally have no control.

Toploader has said they would've pulled it from steam by now if they had control

RWS is a developer, it is thier fault for outsource=ing thier only franchies.

The plan was bad from the begining, thier big bang theory was to get it done ASAP and get it onto the 360 to rake in lots of dough. look back to the early days of the games developement and read pretty much any interview with vince desi and you'll see that was the original ideal.
The sad thing about it all is P3 is very likely the last postal game ever. The game is not selling well, RWS cannot be making any money from it and theres no mention at all of P4 on thier site even after all this time... They need to do a kickstarter and get back to work on thier own (in house) postal game. Hell i'd settle for another quake3 engine game like P2. They could have licesend the engine (before id sold out to betheseda) for a meager $10K (thats a full rights retail licens price)

And thats why kickstarter came to exist, trust me if RWS did a kickstarter for P4 im certain there will be a LOT of backers...so long as they dont ♥♥♥♥ up and outsource. heck we all still play postal 2 a lot and the graphics are still alright by standard...maybe they could take the same engine, change things around a bit some new plot, some different characters, new weapons, same postal dude and champ, if they really felt like it they could smoothen things out but still keep it low budget.

the biggest complication would probably be VA's, i recalls postal 3 having a different sounding dude...not entirely sure if its even the same VA or not but i mean...if we can get the original dude VA that would make it all the merrier.

the point is if they put a little into a kickstarter we could potentially see a postal 4, and they could probably even pull themselves back up and branch out to more entertaining game IPs.
