1. Project started out great
2. Russsian economy tanked and put Akella on the ropes
3. Akella had to get rid of their best dev team (the one working on the game) and bring in a new less experienced team
4. A year of cutting back on the game and throwing out gameplay to save money followed
5. On the verge of bankrupcy they released the game in pre alpha to cash in
and that my friends is the sad story of Postal 3
Hate not the company for their release but the situations that made their release stale and hope that they could one day be able to go back and clean it up if they ever get the data from akella.
Toploader has said they would've pulled it from steam by now if they had control
The plan was bad from the begining, thier big bang theory was to get it done ASAP and get it onto the 360 to rake in lots of dough. look back to the early days of the games developement and read pretty much any interview with vince desi and you'll see that was the original ideal.
The sad thing about it all is P3 is very likely the last postal game ever. The game is not selling well, RWS cannot be making any money from it and theres no mention at all of P4 on thier site even after all this time... They need to do a kickstarter and get back to work on thier own (in house) postal game. Hell i'd settle for another quake3 engine game like P2. They could have licesend the engine (before id sold out to betheseda) for a meager $10K (thats a full rights retail licens price)
the biggest complication would probably be VA's, i recalls postal 3 having a different sounding dude...not entirely sure if its even the same VA or not but i mean...if we can get the original dude VA that would make it all the merrier.
the point is if they put a little into a kickstarter we could potentially see a postal 4, and they could probably even pull themselves back up and branch out to more entertaining game IPs.
