Are you going to put in some sort of symbol that those items can't be used to create commercial content unless it is used to parody/spoof something?
(Not part of the main plot, but one of my characters likes to read manga. Sort of like a side story or event.)
This is concerning if this is true, since the dev had already said you could use the content to make commercial games.
As an aside, there is a large amount of content on Steam that has stolen content. Steam rarely acts unless the creator files a complaint.
It's interesting that you note that Steam rarely acts on stolen content, though!
However, since this is a software meant to create original comics/manga, I'm assuming that there may be some issues in the near future when questions about commercial use are brought..
if you need more clothes, plz wait for workshop which we workin on, users can upload they own 3D models.
I found a similar product on itch.io called Mannequin which I know that I can use the images it creates in my indie games without any license issues but to be honest it doesn't look as nice as KumaKuma so I would prefer to use your product if it is legally possible.
imo the software offers great potential to speed up the creation of mangas and doujinshi, and maybe also visual novels, if the pages created with it are used as "skeleton" rather than "final product".
The same goes for the other examples (mannequin; except mb-lab which is free and open source), which unlike kuma kuma, are only to create poses and edit premade model without the extra tools for manga effects, or keeping a catalog of expressions.
imo the models look more or less generic, which means that even if they were offered with a cc license or similar, using them directly without a bit of extra work would not be very attractive for most people (outside a small circle of friends willing to pay or play for free whatever you made). This is why most people wont try even free rpg maker games: unless something looks a bit original, it wont help you improve as storyteller or artist, or sell whatever you create if thats the goal.
Are we allowed to use all the assets in our commercial projects?
"We've received a ton of requests from you guys asking for authorization to use KumaKuma Manga Editor in various scenarios. Here's our reply:
In principle, anyone who've purchase KumaKuma Manga Editor on Steam is allowed to use the software and the content in it in games or other projects they're creating with no need to ask the developers for extra authorization, as long as the users mention that the content they are using are made with KumaKuma Manga Editor.
Please beware that this announcement DOES NOT authorize you to use the content in Workshop created by other users. You'll have to ask the creator for authorization.
Thanks for your love and support!
KumaKuma Developer"
