What is vampirism supposed to do?

Playing a pally/knight pistol/shield using hybird. Equiped the vamp relic to test it out (at 1%) and thought it would add some kind of life leech and so far its not doing anything on my default pistol attack, my shield attack, my holy spells or on kill and its not working on my secondary melee sword either. is it just bugged and i just dont know? or does it do something else that i dont know about?

If anyone could enlighten me as to what it is supposed to do that would be greta, please and thank you.

Vampirism heals you every time you deal damage. This heal depends on the amount of vampirism and damage dealt. For example when you have 10% of vampirism and deal 100 damage you will gain 10 health. The artifact you mentioned work but at first level it is so weak that you will barrely notice its effect. You will need to level it a few more times to truly benefit from it.

hmm ya thats what i thought, thing is, its not working. at 1% vamp with any amount of health missing i should be getting at least 3-5 hp per attack in most cases and i dont even see that amount of health return. Must be bugged if its only at lvl 1. This is with strictly the relic as my only source of vamp and only at lvl 1 for 1%. Not even getting 1 hp returned on a 500-600 dmg hit.

hmm maybe the relic just acts as 1% boost to existing vampirism. poor wording on the item probably.
