Want a server list for MW2?
I had found this mod a while back giving you a server list in Modern Warfare 2. Thought you guys would find it helpfull. it supports a console with some commands, modding for the game modes and maps, and more. http://fourdeltaone.net/

It's just an alternative client, it's 100% legal, legit, working a lot better than the steam version of this game.
It's censored because some people download the game illegally and apply this kind of client on it as a crack to play the game for free. Doing that is illegal, applying this mod to your steam game is perfectly legit and, in my opinion, highly recommended.
A server browser lets you chose lower ping servers (you never play over 100 ping), ban cheaters from your server, even votekick cheaters, chose your favourite map, play nuketown (user made map).
Or you can just sit there for 10 minutes while your steam version of MW2 is still looking for a match.

does it take lobbies from the steam version, or is it a seperate set of servers hosted by a different source?

completely seperate. you don't need steam to run it.

Incoming: people who say that it will cause a VAC ban.

Its censored for a reason. This mod is illegal + not allowed. VAC also looks for modifications in the game files, which is what this mod does.
