Instant 70 hackers?
I joined a game the other day and was disconnected after getting 1 kill. After I was returned to the lobby I was congratulated on reaching level 70 (I was 39-40 before I think). Currently I have no way to revert back, and frankly, I didn't want an instant 70. To me the game is fun to play legit, and I do not hack on any games I use through steam because I certainly don't want to get banned from any game I have paid full retail for.

Anyone else experience this? Should I contact Valve?

This has been around since the day came out. Even I've been prestiged to 10th Prestige Level 70 without me asking.

You can revert right back to Level 1, but you will lose everything online related for MW2. There's no need to contact Valve to be honest, they can't do anything anyways.

In the future you can use the "mw2 Configuration Utility" which allows to manually or automatically back up the progress of your game (your save file). That way if you get hacked in any way (like getting boosted to lvl 70 or 10th prestige) you can just revert back.

Thanks for the quick replies. I also contacted steam when I made this thread and they said the following:

"Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

It appears that you have connected to a hacked server. This will not cause your account to be VAC banned.

Unfortunately, we cannot reclaim stats and ranks that have been corrupted. However, if you would like to permanently reset your stats and start over, please complete this process:

* Exit from Steam and go to your Steam Install folder (default location: C:\Program Files\Steam\ )
* Delete all of the files in this folder *except* The Steamapps folder and Steam.exe (If 'exe' is not visible, look for the black and white Steam icon)
* In the Library list in Steam, right click the listing of "Modern Warfare 2 - Multiplayer" and go to "Properties"
* Click the Updates tab, uncheck the box next to "Enable Steam Cloud synchronization" and then select "Close"
* Restart Steam and launch your game to begin at Rank 1

Once you have played a few rounds, please go back into the Properties menu and enable the Steam Cloud feature to continue updating your rank.

If you require any further technical support for Modern Warfare 2, please contact Activision Support:
http://support.activision.com

If you have any further questions, please let us know."

In the future I will back up my MW2 files as you suggested, but I figured I'd also include this reply for anyone else that may come across the same issue. Thanks again for the replies guys.

mw2config.com no longer works... and im pretty sure that was never the web address this should be deleted...

mw2config is a very viable program to help back up ranks and the such... but beware that while searching for a dl site for the utility i came across many many malware offers for the program...

also know that the author of the program no longer hosts on the .edu site that was its home for years
