How to reset your MW2 Multiplayer rank

I've decided to make this thread as players are having their ranks modified without their permission and very few seem to know how to do a reset.

Please note - This process is NOT reversible. Once you have reset your rank it there is no way to revert to your previous rank. This will not get you VAC banned.

This will reset your MW2 Multiplayer rank back to Level 1 (so when you first purchased the game). Everything you have earned on MW2 Multiplayer will be reset. This will not affect your Campaign / Spec Ops progress.

Note - There is no easy way to revert your rank to what it was before it was hacked. You can either stick with your modded rank, or reset it.

Steps to reset:

1. Right click MW2 in your Steam library > Properties > Update tab > Untick Cloud Sync.

2. Navigate to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\call of duty modern warfare 2\players

3. Delete all .stat files.

4. Then navigate to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata
There may be one or more folders here that consist of random numbers.
I recommend using the search feature in Windows explorer. You are looking for a folder called "10190".

5. After you have found the '10190' folder, enter it and go into the 'remote' folder.

6. Delete everything inside the 'remote' folder.

7. Open MW2 Multiplayer to see your new rank.

8. Play and rank up to Level 5 and then close the game.

9. Re-enable Steam Cloud Sync as shown in Step 1.

You are finished!

Notice: You CANNOT be banned from resetting your rank. Using mods or programs to modify your rank will result in a VAC ban.

hey! would resetting your entire computer fix the problem of being forced to reset my rank everytime i log on?
some one reset my rank and put me to zero.. i wasnt mad about that. i was mad that i can no longer keep my files saved.. ill play a few games rank up and then log off.. when i get back on i get the box say

you are running and older version of the game
reset rank to continue

cancel reset

if i hit cancel it just shuts the game down.. if i hit reset it just resets the rank and the whole problem restarts and repeats! .. im on a Mac Mini and any help to fixing this would be nice !

Has following the instructions in the original post not fixed it?

Resetting your PC wouldn't work as the rank is stored on Steam servers.

How i can reset my challenges?
I won't take prestige.
I won't reset EVERYTHING to lvl 1 by deleting folder 10190 and md202.stat files from ..Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2\players.
Maybe i can change md files (.stat) to reset challenges?

and 1 more. if i will get hacked lobby and host changed my prestige (derank to level down) i will not get ban? and now i can take prestige to reset challenges
