Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) - Multiplayer

Warning to those who want to use a different MW2 client to play dedicated servers.
If you want to do it, protip: DON'T. Copy the MW2 folder to somewhere else and install the mod (IE. Repziw4m) there. If you use the Steam folder the game will VAC ban you. Way to treat your customers fairly! :^)

I have explained that already as well as how to ensure Steam is not running when you play this mod.

I love being treated like crap for taking the option to support the devs to play a custom client instead of just pirating. The saying is true, "DO WHAT YOU WANT BECAUSE A PIRATE IS FREE! YOU ARE A PIRATE!"

But thanks for the link.

This mod is not allowed? You're promoting piracy and violation of the Steam SSA (and a bunch of other agreements) by telling people it is safe to use.

Playing MW2 to its full potential is piracy and cheating?

Modding the game files (especially to an extent where you don't need to buy the game) are, yes.

Oh well.

If someone wants to use a different client, they will do it. I don't really see the point of telling them not to. They bought the game anyway.

This. Oh well now I am a 1337 haxor for running a different client so I don't have to deal with hacked lobbies and lag :^)

Amazing how clueless you are and how you just read into what ever you like. I am not promoting piracy in any shape or form. I own the game and my explanation of how to use this mod assumes you do as well. Oh wait, you obviously did not read what I wrote, you just assumed.....

At no point have I ever stated it is safe to use. As a matter of fact, had you actually READ what I wrote, I said use at your own risk. I have stated how I use it, and what I do, and to date have never had an issue. But that is my experience.

How about in the future, before you decide to interject your stupidity into a conversation, you get yourself educated, or at the VERY least read that which you are posting about. Every time you come to these forums I lose more respect for you.

For the record, the constant back seat moderating you insist on doing is also a violation.

To the rest. This mod is an option. It is an option that creates that which IW basterdized from the game, and gives us back the option to have dedicated servers, from a dedicated browser, admined by dedicated admins. The choice is yours if you wish to use or not use this mod. No one is forcing you. You are more than free to continue to use the current P2P system that is laced with hacks and cheaters and more of a headache than an enjoyable experience. You decide.

You know if you could work in the cd key authentication code into the dedicated server version iw steam activision the whole lot could just go ♥♥♥♥ themselves... thats what brought down your predecessor was that there was no verification that it was a legit copy... this could be easily done....

Just sayin...

Obviously you would still need steam disabled to prevent them being haters but it would be legal and you could just use their system as it is
TacTicToe (Ausgeschlossen) 10. Dez. 2014 um 21:47
I am not the developer of this mod. What brought down the predecessor was their hubris in thinking they could mod games that Activision still cares about. The created a mod for CoD OL whixh is still be acticely developed. That was what really got them in Activision's crosshairs. Even when they went online with Black Ops, it was over looked. As soon as they went with CoD OL it was all over.

The whole legality thing has been a bit of a gray area. As it was deemed a "mod" it seemed to fly under the radar. For me, I prefer not to risk anything just in case, so I dis-able Steam. Now I am not saying it is 100% legal or not, BUT is has flown very much under the radar, and Activision seems not to care.

For me, the ability to have dedicated servers is paramount to everything else.

no what i am saying is from what i understand the injunction brought on by activision was due to the unauthorized copies that could now skirt the authentication system
TacTicToe (Ausgeschlossen) 11. Dez. 2014 um 11:01
I'm not entirely sure to be honest. I own the game, I play off a legit copy, so for me I am ok with what I do. aIW got whacked because they openly promoted piracy with links and tutorials to circumvent copy protection. Since they actively promoted this and then started doing so with Black Ops (which was pretty new at the time) that was why Activision went gunning for them.

4D1 was fine for the longest with a similar mod for MW2. They flirted with BO but never went there. NTA then created a working backend for CoD Online which was still be actively developed by Activision in China, and that was what brought 4D1 down. If they had never gone online with their working version of CoD Online, they would probably still be running strong. They have abandoned those projects and are now working on their own version of San andreas something or rather.

The guys I have mentioned in my thread have taken over and as of this post, have remained under the radar of Activision, because they have learned from the mistakes of their predecessors. I agree it wouldbe fantasitc if they did some sort of authentication check, not sure exactly what it is they do or do not do.

I know Nexus does this with BC2. They created their own emulator for BC2 servers, BUT you need a legit copy to play. So somehow they still do an authentication check for that game.

At any rate, getitng off topic a bit and rambling. It works, it is infinitely superior to the P2P system that was deployed by IW. It is phenomenal to have server browsers again, and select a server you wish to play on by ping, mods or gametype you wish to play. I run Big Brother Bot to administrate. It is literally like playing a CoD4 server, only it is MW2.

What you people seem to be not noticing is the agreement you all agreed to when you bought the game and activated it (if you bought it in a shop then you would have agreed to this when you activated it).

Even if you don't buy / activate the game, you are still violating UK law (and US law) by modifying the files and changing the way the game works WITHOUT consent from the developer / publisher. People have done in the past with other video games and they have been sued for a lot of money. There is a copyright on this game and would fall under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act (1988)[www.legislation.gov.uk] which you can be taken to court and be sued for.
