Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) - Multiplayer

MW2 Resolution Problems
I keep trying to change the resolution for multiplayer to my monitor's resolution, but it never works. I tried starting in safe mode, but it only made the problem worse because now the resolution is locked at the smallest value. I'm using Windows 10, if that helps. Since I'm using a 4k monitor, having the game at the lowest resolution is almost unplayable. Can anyone help me with this?

I'm actually having this issue too, only started recently. Mine is only working on the smallest value and one other that isn't much better. I'll let you know if I find a solution, but if someone else knows that works too.

Thanks for the worthless advice Mr Hacker. At least in my case, and I'm assuming OP's as well, we have more than decent hardware.

Go to the Players folder contained within your MW2 Installation folder, for me this is:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2\players

Open either "config" for Sp or "config_mp" for MP (using Notepad if you haven't opened a .cfg before).

Whilst holding [Ctrl] press [F] to open Find (or click Edit, then select Find).

In Find type "r_mode" (without quotes) and set your desired resolution.

Save (either [Ctrl] + [S] or File > Save)

:steamhappy:

Edit: Having checked the Properties of the file I have taken Ownership thereof. It's a straightforward process but watching a video on YouTube may be more helpful than me explaining it with words if you are not Windows Savvy.
