Game no longer works on my PC

Windows 11, game do not start.
When lauched from steam - nothing happens.
When launched from directory directly (exe file) - i see error about missing ddl file.

Devs should fix it.

Thanks, but why developers should not fix it?
Why I should do it with help of good people?
I paid money, now game which I bough turned into ♥♥♥♥.

I tried copying some of ddls, but then in game music was missing...
How many actions I need to do to fix this ♥♥♥♥?
I mean, if this manual helps, I will can go through it and finally launch the game.
BUT, after 5-10 minutes failing to launch the game - I lost all my mood to play this at all.

I want to say, that Komani should keep an eye on their legacy, and if on Windows 11 it stopped working - they MUST create a patch.
It is Contra after all.

And I want to play it on evening with friends having a beer - I do not want to say "ohh, common guys wait 15 minutes, I must do the magic before this piece of ... will work and then we can enjoy".


It is not about I cannot go through manual.
I really want that me and all others could play without workarounds.
Just press start, choose which contra to play and go shoot these monsters.

Not sure about Windows 11, I didn't try it nor have the will to. Just sharing to help if the cause is the same...

The problem I had was on Windows 10 and I fixed it that way, no issues with the music.

0xc000007b error Is not really a problem with the game, but with the Windows setup / updates.

Anyway, would be great to have a patch from Konami.
I understand, that it is more connected to Windows, but all other my games in steam works.
Only this one don’t.

Welcome to abandonware. Google Konami's track record in the gaming landscape.

You could try running the .exe in compatibility mode to see if an older version of Windows is what the game is optimized for. Windows 11 is an infamous Macrosuck product as versions of Windows go.

If you are not willing to troubleshoot, abandon the game for a while and perhaps someone else will have solved the problem for the community and be sure to offer them gratitude upon your return.

Windows 11 - it is not excuse for developers who sold this game.
Adding patch for modern Windows do not sound like impossible.

Komani asks money for product that do not work on Windws 11.
And it is ok? Seriosly?

I can understand "Windows 95" no longer supported stuff.
I can understand "On Specific Linux or Mac" game not working.

But, common, "we cannot make a patch for Windows 11" sounds like just "we do not care about gamers, they do enjoy our old game? whatever".

Komani should make a fix. It is Contra collection!
It is gold classic!

Solution found:

Recently I have played "Alice Madness Returns".
It also did not work, but I followed steps that were specified in one post (there were 3 steps):

1) Install all the required DirectX (DX9, DX10, DX11 Etc...)

2) Install all the Visual C++ Runtimes (The installer below, brings all the Visuals C++ in one)

3) Put two ddl files into game folder (I did it for Alice, have not done it for Contra)

And after this - game strated to work with sound.
Just 2 links with pretty easy-to-follow instructions.

hello, this might be me being stupid, but i'm really at a loss here. i can open the game and select a version, but it won't let me actually play. it just shows the 'trailer gameplay' (for lack of a better term). any ideas why?
