Noticed this as well, not sure if it's intended.

That is intentional. Super Contra also has the same credit limit.

So why did they create the insert credits if it's not going to work? I want to be able to enjoy the game by having a lot of lives like how some people modded the old Sega games on the Sega Genesis & megadrive game, or is it only on Contra and Super Contra? I guess I'll have to test this out

Why not save the game every time you pass some areas. If you die then load your last save. You should be able to beat the game eventually doing that. lol

I knew I could save the game, but I figured that the total lives would have kept the same no matter what. Thanks =)

It's just sad and bad. i did not buy it only to be restricted.

Well, that's how the original arcades always were.
No they weren't, the continue limit only exists based on how much coins you had to continue so there's actually no point to limited continues. And the games lag in this version which never happened in the originals.

Agree about lag, but continues were allways limited in arcade contras. You can check dip switch settings in the internet, and there is no option for unlimited continues.
There's no such thing as an arcade game without continues dependent on how many coins you have.

Well, looks like you haven't played much of arcades then.
Let's also not forget that many machines have a freeplay function.

Freeplay means that you don't need quarters to play, but it has nothing to do with continues.
LMFAO yes it does, Arcades are coin operated.

It doesn't.
If the arcade game has limited continues, then you can throw 100 quarters, but once continues are over - it's game over.
If it's on free mode, than you just have to put quaters, but the limited continues are still there, and it will work just like a console game.
I'm gonna guess you think the arcade game worked the way the nes game did with limited artificial continues which makes no sense from an arcade business standpoint. It's also the same reason capcom's beat em up collection has infinite continues since many areas are meant to eat your coins and since they were coin operated you had to pay to continue. Sure the thing can be mitigated by just using the in game save states, but that's not how it worked back then.

The arcade version absolutely had limited continues. Super Contra was one of the first games my dad's arcade had when I was a kid, and I could never get further than the Jungle in Area 3 as a result.

Konami's games tended to be like this, probably so that instead of spamming quarters to reach the end, you'd have to start over and try to get a little further. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was the same way, though that could be circumvented somewhat by having another player jump in. Not sure if that trick works here, though.

I remember playing in the arcade without limits.
