Audio Is Horrible
Everything sounds like loud farts. What is the issue?

This seems to happens when you change sound source. Like headphone to speakers mid game for example. To avoid this, whatever source you want to use, make sure it is started before starting steam. Once steam starts go right into the game.

Most definitely is selected before.

I notice if I start with default speakers, then change to headphone mid game. This happens. I don't know if your sound source is always a headphone. My headphone uses optical out, not USB.

Mmmmm that could be my issue

The way I fix this is I change the sound quality for my sound device from 32 bit to 16, and then I disable all virtual sound devices. I have to do both to get the sound not to be garbage. This is such a trash port, we are all better off just playing the emulated versions. I feel so ripped off.

I was hoping the sound problem would be fixed by restarting steam, but no. Very disappointed of this collection, the brightside is that I only paid 3 bucks for this crappy port. The sound problem is the same in the Contra anniversary collection

The sound problem not only exists for me, but when it happens it slows down the entire game rendering the first castlevania impossible to play. Nothing I do fixes it. I can't understand how you can make an NES emulator run slowly.

It’s a complete gamble for me if audio will work or not. The only thing that works is constantly closing and reloading the game. Sometimes the audios fine but it doesn’t recognise the controller, sometimes the controller is recognised but the audio is all crackly and sometimes it’s both!

Maybe 1 in 10 attempts the game works and plays as it should, sometimes I get it first try, sometimes it takes five minutes of resetting

Same here.
i had problem with the audio for almost a year .. since i got the game BUT suddenly the last few days .. the audio in all games now plays normal as it should do from the start :)
I didn't do anything .. maybe the developers did something & thank you for that.
I hope somehow your audio gets fixed as well cause Castlevania have some of the best soundtracks in all games ever !!

Same actually, just started playing again a couple of days ago and I’ve not encountered any issues since!

In case anyone else runs into this issue, per another thread, I ran the compatibility troubleshooter on game.exe in the game's Steam folder and it recommended Windows 8 compatibility mode. Switching to that has resolved the issue for me.

could be a coincidence since sometimes the audio just works like it should but when I switched indeed to win8 compatibility it worked perfectly. Fingers crossed and thanks for the potential solution!

I just tried this and it worked for me as well, this is definitely a good solution I'd say
