This game behaves weird in some circumstances where it will not properly run at fullspeed. A framerate graph will show it dropping under 60.
In Windows 7, if you disable Aero the game instantly drops the framerate under 60FPS for example.
maybe i shouldn't say this, but do the (ahem!) ROM's suffer the same issues?
i would but my bottom dollar that they don't ;)
of course, these are essentially just the rom's anyway, with a new coat of paint?
hmm, it is a solution, but there must be a better one out there.
actually, i did get castlevania IV to run properly once.
i went into the 'properties' tab in the exe and selected 'run in 640 x 480 screen resolution' & 'vista' compatibility mode.
i done something else, went back and done the same thing as before...and it didn't work!
EDIT: and now is working fine again, i don't understand...
My cause of the problem came from graphics software, i.e. AMD Software: PRO Edition, where I set the Graphics Profile to "Performance" and turned on any boosts which I thought might improve the performance, e.g., Radeon Anti-Lag, Radeon Image Sharpening, Radeon Enhanced Sync. I finally discovered that these boosts do not work with this game; on the contrary, they caused the adverse slow effect you are experiencing. Turn them off and set your Graphics Profile to Default, at least for this game, and every title in the game will run smoothly as it should.
